The last thing I spoke to my dad about was John's unfortunate death a couple of days earlier.

A couple of days later, my dad closed his first business deal since his major open heart surgery about a year earlier, and after taking my mom out to celebrate, the patch in his ventricle wall from that surgery blew out shortly after the folks got home. Pops was dead before the paramedics arrived..... from barely two blocks away.

Since 1980, my dad and John have been inexorably connected, and every time John's name comes up, I can't help but think of my dad.
