What’s our favorite smart home thermostat these days?

Prime early access days got me thinking if we need anything, and my wife has been asking about smart thermostats. We already have a ~10+ year old programmable thermostat that we use, but no phone/internet access, etc.

We have no Alexa in our home - I’m solidly in the Apple boat by inertia as much as anything, but am happy there ; )

Ease of use is a plus.

Anyway, any recommendations?

We're happy with the EcoBee. We have had it for a little over two years.

- Easy install

- With a little fine tuning via Homekit, we are set to automatically turn the heat down to minimal levels if we are both gone. It automatically comes back to 68° as soon as either one of us returns home. Scheduling basic daytime, nighttime schedule is easy peasy, but limited to just that. ie, you can't also have an evening schedule without using Homekit.

- Although it's tough to compare year to year due to weather variations, our natural gas use is down about 25% since we put in the EcoBee

- If you set up Homekit, you get Siri capability. So you can just ask Siri to turn up the heat when your hands are full.

- Our first EcoBee was defective and they were very quick to send out a replacement. Customer service was very good.

I have been happy with ecobee. I have a few of the ecobee 3 and one of the newer models called SmartThermostat with Voice Control. I never control it via voice and don't see me needing/wanting to do it since I can easily make changes via their app if needed.

Our local power utility installs ecobee 3 lites for free as part of their energy savings program, but it gives them the ability to allow your set temp to increase by 4 degrees during "energy events". It can be overridden, but I feel better not having to worry about them letting the house get hotter when they want.

Happy Ecobee owner here.

Check your current thermostat connections to make sure you have the correct wiring for whatever thermostat you end up getting.

Consider me the odd man out; I got a Sensi because it was being offered free-of-charge by my local utility as an energy-saving upgrade.

I like it a lot, particularly for two reasons:

1) It is "smart", but not so "smart" that it has to be integrated into anything else, e.g., I am only using it with their app and it doesn't have access to anything else in my house... as it should be.

2) It has an overcooling option to reduce house humidity, which is very useful with my climate.

Thanks all.

The internets seem to like Ecobee too.

We have a Nest in the condo and a Wyze in my house. Didn't get a Nest for the house because I think they are a bit pricey. The Wyze is much simpler and cheaper.

I have a nest and I'm happy with it because I like the looks but I might consider ecobee if I was starting over. Got a smart thermostat for my sister in law since we were optimizing for price but it works just fine.

Ecobee on my upstairs unit.
Pretty easy interface. I don’t need it to do a lot.

Happy Ecobee customer here. It did require our HVAC service person to actually properly install our wires however. We had them install it when they did a maintenance visit.

Same here. Works fine, no problems.
