Is there a particular provider to use or is one both the same?
I found noip and cloudns.
My FiOS got popped last night, so the Emby server had a new address that I didn't know about.
Or is there a way (if better off) to get an email sent when the dns changes?

[www.cloudns.net] looks nice. You want something you can set and forget about.

I use the free noip service, partly because it was one of the services that my DD-WRT router supported.

They intentionally make it an inconvenience to use the free service for long periods of time by expiring the domain every 30 days and you need to go to their site to renew it. They send email about a week before it expired and a final one the moment it expires, both have a link you can click to renew for another 30 days. The schedule is consistent enough that I can have a calendar reminder to let me know when it will be expiring next. But they really want you to use their paid service to eliminate the 30 day renewals.
