What is 6 figure? Isn’t that 100,000?

The 8GB smartphone was sold by LCG Auctions on Sunday. The device originally retailed for $599 in 2007 — or $852 in 2022 after inflation — and quickly saw its price climb from the opening bid of $2,500 to well into six figures.

This is the headline:

"Someone just paid over $39,000 for a 15-year-old iPhone—more than 50 times its original price"

Not sure where you saw 6-figure?

I bet the battery is bad, as in leaking bad.

My iPods from that time have dead batteries that won't charge, but they haven't swelled.

It's just a feeling, but it seems to me that battery swelling is a more recent phenomenon, possibly based on newer battery chemistry.

But could this be Schrodinger's iPod?

Open the box, and the 'resale' value drops.

Still, it would be interesting to put a new battery in it.

I've still got my 2007 'Phone, but it's far from NIB.

If its battery were replace, what kind of functionality would it have.

If you have a (mostly) dead iPod battery, leave it plugged in for a couple of days.

Hurts like a bastid...
