Significant change in business direction and market conditions, probably most of the hardware team will be laid off along with a significant part of the software team. I'll find out in which group I am soon, but even if I am not laid off, I will start looking for new opportunities.

If you haven't done so yet, copy your work email contacts and any server files you may want a copy of onto a thumb drive. Don't ask. Just do it ASAP. I am retired now but over the years had some tumultuous changes and different career paths. I always worried to the max and with 20/20 hindsight it worked out better than I could have expected. You are an intelligent person with friends. It will work out. Easy to say do not stress on situations out of your control but you will find your path

No updates today.

I and my team were one of the few hardware teams doing actual work, testing new ideas, pushing forward.

Other hardware teams were just patching things, no one wanted to do real innovation.

I was one of the last to leave the building. got there at 9 AM, left at 6:30. Others were gone at 4.

I'll go back tomorrow to finish what I started today and then start a new project.

Yes and no. People who are actively seeking work because they're out of work can be valuable because they're more likely to accept an offer. Hiring teams often don't like going through the motions just to have someone decline and stay at their current job.

There's also been so many layoffs in the past few years, I don't think there's as much of a stigma around employment gaps as there used to be.
