Received email from TurboTax that to use program on my mid 2012 MacBook Pro, I would need to update IOS , at least to Big Sur

I have updated other older MacBooks, with the computer wiz that allows the use of newer IOS on older computers

So should I take my main computer that I use just for Quicken, Internet, etc , no business stuff, just fun stuff

Anyway, typing on my iPhone

At least they give a warning

They gave the warning with the 2021 version, saying you'd need Big Sur or higher for 2022.

I recall switching to H&R Block many years ago because their support for older OSs lasted much longer than TurboTax's.

Turbo tax works exactly the same way in the online version as it does in the one you install on your computer and all that is required is a web browser and an internet connection…

Why in the world doesn’t the IRS provide free software? Oh. Never mind. Now I remember. Corporations must have their ton of flesh, and the extra data mining revenue.

Well, you can use IRS's Free Fillable Forms, [www.irs.gov], but the calculations are very rudimentary. It's little more than PDF forms. You have to know what you need to do without a helpful interview bot to hold your hand.

Looking at that page, there was another link to a free filing service through partnerships with providers for people with incomes below $73K.

What's irritating about TT is that it's really not backward compatible. Just try opening a return from 2000 for example. IMpossible unless you have a Bondi blue iMac - LOL

How often do you need to edit a live version of a 20 year old return? The only really backward compatibility I use is to import info from last year's return. I export to PDF for archival purposes.
