She doesn't want to get a new phone and quite frankly I don't blame because it's been flawless. How viable is this combination going to be? I've read that since she can't go to iOS16 she may not be able to update the watch in the very near future. Any insight on this?

I'm surprised the 6s wasn't sunsetted with the new OS. I really wouldn't expect it to be supported much longer.

iOS 16 dropped support for the 6s, 7, and the original SE. Not sure what your definition of sunsetted is.

i had read months ago that the next update for the Watch would still include the 6s. guess in the interim Apple changed their mind unless you don't need OS 16 to run Watch OS 9.

watchOS 9 needs at least an iPhone 8 and iOS 16.

iOS 16 needs at least a 2020 SE.

If you get an S7 NIB, it will probably have watchOS 8, which will run on a 6s with iOS 15.

So it's upgrade path is a dead-end.

As long as a 6s and S7 are viable for your best half, she could be satisfied for quite some time.
