OK, I called Turbotax, and yes I can use the online tax program. But I usually do about 5 different tax returns and if I used the online, I would need 5 different sign ins. In talking with Turbotax, she said that it pretty much the same, except you don't have access to FORMS. Which I sometimes need to go to , to see where to enter something etc.

So not wanting to mess with my Daily Driver MacBook Pro, a 13", Mid 2012, I used one of the 3 Legacy Macs I picked up on CL for $60 about a year ago.

So I installed Big Sur on an older MacBook Pro, and will use that as my Tax Computer this year.

Using Opencore Legacy Patcher, and following the Video on Youtube from Mr. MacIntosh I installed Big Sur on this computer below. We will see how it goes, during TurboTax season.

Anyone have 2 4 Gb memory chips or 2 8 Gb memory chips, they could recommend. If I could do it cheap enough, I assume running on more than 4 gigs of 1333 Mhz DDR3, would be better. MacTracker says that the 15" Late 2011, 8,2 would use 2 204 pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM

I kept a 4 year old and an 8 year old Dell laptops when I got my M2 Air in the summer. I'm going to use them for Turbotax this year and until they die. I have to do 2 state returns and using 2 different computers allows me to do it without paying extra. We're converting IRA's over the last couple of years and we will continue through 2025. If the Dell computers last through that time I'd be happy to shift to the online version for 2026 and thereafter since we'll have a really basic tax return at that point. At this point I'm using Forms so the online version would be a problem.

Microman - how difficult was the upgrade to Big Sur using the special patches? My main Mac is a mid-2012 Macbook Pro, which rarely gets used these days (due to having a work HP laptop). As much as I'd love an excuse to upgrade it to a new M2 MacBook Air, I can't justify the cost, so I'll probably go this route to use TurboTax next year.
