Help me out with email, and iCal invites-I'm begging you, I'm not proud!

Ok, I've got two problems here that I'm hoping y'all can help out with some time ago my wife wanted to be able to access her emails on both her iPhone and her MacBook Pro, but didn't want any emails stored on her email provider's server.

So, in a fit of insanity and ignorance, I set up her devices for both POP and IMAP. I have no idea how the emails are being deleted from the server.

But now there are two problems. First, my wife complains that some emails show up on the server, but not on her devices, or just don't show up at all, or show up only on one device.

So I'm guessing that the best answer to this is simply to say, "Honey, we're just going to have to go with IMAP, and you're going to have to manually delete the emails from the server." Does that make sense to y'all? Will anything weird/bad happen when I turn POP off?

Second, my wife wants to use iCal to send out invitations. She receives replies via email, especially for folks who use Windows/Android, but they don't show up in iCal. Anybody have any insights about this?

Thanks, all-I really appreciate any advice.

“ Will anything weird/bad happen when I turn POP off? “

I’d make sure all POP messages are “ On My Mac “ or archived before proceeding.

Yep.

Log into webmail. Look at the Inbox. Make sure that all items from the Inbox have been downloaded/moved/copied to local "on my computer" folders in Apple Mail on a Mac. This is your insurance against anything weird/bad happening.

Not sure what you're describing.

Are you saying that when someone accepts the invite, the event doesn't get updated in iCal to show a checkmark next to that person's name? It shows question marks?

If so, that's par for the course. iCal/Calendar sucks at updating events when someone accepts/declines. It seems to be most reliable when working with Exchange accounts, then somewhat reliable with Google accounts, and last, completely unreliable with EVERYTHING ELSE.
