Open Office will not verify on 11.7

Well, that pretty much sums it up. I went to update the app and can't get it to load (can't verify that it's not malware, acc to message). Is this a known bug with Open Office or a Big Sur machine?

OS X and Gatekeeper

Apache OpenOffice 4.x versions will be flagged by the new Gatekeeper facility in OS X Mountain Lion. This is a feature to help guard against malware on Mac systems. There is a procedure laid out at the following link to allow applications not installed from the Mac App store to run. See the article at Mac support at https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202491.

...If you're prompted to open the app in Finder and you're sure you want to open it despite the warning, you can control-click the app, choose Open from the menu, and then click Open in the dialog that appears. Enter your admin name and password to open the app.

Or you can disable Gatekeeper entirely by entering this command (followed by your password) in the terminal:

sudo spctl --master-disable

I think open office is not being updated, LibreOffice is. Might be an alternative for you.

thanks for both suggestions. recalling that I went through a similar thing about 18 months ago when I bought this machine, I clicked on the icon instead of trying to copy to the app folder, and was somehow able to open it because the dialog box I got there was different. it allowed me to open it with only a "warning" about the app being downloaded from the internet and possibly not secure.
