Photos now missing everything after March

Photos version 1.01
Mac 10.10.5 (I know, I know - I don't use my Mac much anymore)

I usually sync my camera via its Wifi right to my iPad. Photos I've taken, plus photos I've taken on my iPad or downloaded, have always showed up on my Mac. Now only photos up until March of this year show up! On my iPad, there are tons more, of course. Folders on my Mac only show photos up until that time now. I search and only show 172 photos for 2022 - probably 2,000 less than there really should be.

I verified iCloud is still checked off on my iPad and Mac and I'm signed in... I made a shared test folder of photos on my ipad that instantly showed up on the Mac. I toggled ethernet/Wifi. I checked off "show hidden folders" (none) and checked recently deleted (none). I checked to be sure that my HDs are showing up. It's like I have a filter on, but I don't see one. I don't have a Photostream - just iCloud. Help? I have every picture I want showing up on my iPad so I'm really confused. I need to make a slideshow, and I have always done that on the Mac.

Oh, and I restarted twice. I hoped that was the problem though I didn't think so.

Temporary solution: Connect the iPad to your Mac via USB.

I didn't think of that. It won't cause me any duplication/replacement issues?

I do need to get this synchronizing like it used to, though... it's only going to get worse, as I take lots of photos.

“ It won't cause me any duplication/replacement issues? “

It shouldn’t.

If it makes you nervous, though, you could make a backup copy of your photo library first.

Thanks. For now I'm doing the workaround where I add photos I need now to my shared folder, and import from there... so I just want to get it working going forward, I'm sort of OK for the moment. It's clunky but familiar and working.

A while ago I helped someone using El Cap who was having syncing issues.

I traced his problem back to his more recent iPhone using formats that weren't supported in the older mac os. The sync would stop when any such item was encountered.

Solved by upgrading to High Sierra.

I hope that isn’t it, I can’t upgrade. My iPad (I don’t have a phone) has not been updated recently and this was working not long ago.
