I posted on their CS forum.
tw@t$!

FYI TV has been sold to a headless corporation from another galaxy that couldn't care less about free users.

Though TV built their rep on the early free users, the new overlords haven't a clue or care.

I use TV once very 6 months, maybe, to help out tech challenged f&f. But yet TV thinks I'm commercial.

The detection algorithm is no longer written in code but rather under-cooked mashed potato.

The reset form doesn't work in any browser, all ad blockers etc, disabled.

Too busy getting "sponsoring" F1 cars, fooseball teams, and kitty litter pans.

ack ack ack!!! we come in piece

Fritz,

TeamViewer kaiboshed my usage of the app as commercial one time too many. Although I found TeamViewer the best of the remote apps, it isn't so much better than many competitors to stay with them. I switched to Screens and haven't looked back. AnyDesk is also very good. I hear good things about Jump Desktop.

FWIW, the Mac OS has built in remote control features but I've never been able to get them to work in the same manner as TeamViewer, Screens and similar apps. The only time I've been successful is via Messages, when someone is actively on the remote computer to allow me to control it. That doesn't cut it when I need access to my machine at home and there is nobody to let me into it.

I’ve started using Parsec, since first TeamViewer and now Anydesk decided I’m a business user for accessing my HTPC from my laptop.

noMachine is supposed to be good too. I use it to log into Linux machines, but they also have a Mac server I think. Free for personal use

I may have found a way with Messages offering to share instead of asking to share.
Got to test s'more.
The only shortcoming with screens is it's Mac only.
I have to contend with Android and W11 on occasion. But ....

dl'd nomachine and connected immediately to the LAN (wifi), but I don't have the configure correct for remote connect.
have to consult a smarter IP person than I.

Connecting from Message to the remote, then asking to share their screen seems to work.

Fritz,

Message to the remote and asking to share the screen will work. I just did that with my mom using my '15 MBPr and her 2020 MBA M1. Not quite as nice as Screens or TeamViewer but workable under the circumstances. It's still Mac only and reliant on someone on the other end allowing you access to their machine.

What I like about TeamViewer (when it works) and Screens is that nobody has to be on the other end. I can configure the remote machine to allow me to jump into it without anyone's intervention. For me, that was critical. With Screens, it was a one-time purchase, done. Install it. Configure it. Done.

I believe it is the same way with Jump Desktop. I never actually tried Jump Desktop for this because I discovered it after I starting using Screens.

I'd use TeamViewer, which has the feature, but it's _way_ too much trouble getting shutdown for commercial use when, in fact, it's personal use. I suspect the issue is that I was jumping into my home computer from my office and, because my office's ISP is commercial access, TeamViewer feels I'm using it for commercial purposes. Doesn't matter if that is true or not.

I believe Zoho Office has an app that includes this feature. i looked into it but, again, after finding Screens, seemed unneccesary to delve further.

"Message to the remote and asking to share the screen will work"
for the one friend that is a lot tech challenged, that's enough.
I would go with Screens if at some point this fails and/or I can't figure how to configure nomachine.

"Message to the remote and asking to share the screen will work"
intermittently with his Monty M1 mini.
Tried no machine. Not entirely sure how I did it, but it seems to be fully engaged. Try to connect with friend.

spoke with Apple tech tonite. They say Screen share is only good for LAN. Tried from my HS MBA to his mini monty over the interwebs. Nope.
Not even a tingle.
Tried Screens tonite. Can't get port forward correct.
Have to spend some more time with it.
Tried nomachine with port forward and that seems to work very well and fast.

Robert - was there any issue with Screens as far as port forwarding?
My friend that I use TV remote control with will be moving to a gated condo type joint. I think his provider will be Xfinidiot.
So I have no idea if he'll even have access to the router and pf'ing.

nomachine needed pf set up.
I also need to ddns him to a static IP as FiOS has changed his pIP a couple times.

So that could be a mess at his new shack.

Too bad Apple doesn't release their proprietary screen share app the techs use. It has no issue with pf or static IP near as I can tell.
