Traveling to Orlando for business - is there anything interesting to do? I hate theme parks

I'm going to Orlando mid march. Is there anything for a theme park hater to do in that place? I assume not but I thought I'd check.

Golf? Actually, if you can find anything to do you should have it all to yourself since everyone else will be at the parks.

You assume not? Why? Is there only one thing to do in your town?

March is a great time of year to visit. There are lakes and springs where you can kayak or swim in. Lake Eola, in downtown, is beautiful and has a farmer’s market on Sundays. There’s a cultural center near downtown with museums including a really good science center. There’s a pretty decent food culture, different areas have different types of food. Winter Park, just north of downtown has a nice shopping area. In the middle of March, they have the Winter Park Arts Festival, with artists from all over the country. Nearby is Leu Gardens, a really nice botanical garden (close to the cultural center mentioned above).

If none of that floats your boat, you can drive 45 minutes to the Kennedy Space Center. Or Daytona Beach. For beaches, I much prefer the west coast of the state, which is about 90 minutes away. For the east coast, I’d pick New Smyrna Beach.

There really is a lot more to Orlando than theme parks. Most people just don’t know about it.

Always welcome, though I'm about 90 minutes away.

Personally, I have never cared for Orlando and never go there.

Yeah, I should have been a little clearer. Swim in the springs, not the lakes! I live close to a state park that has a spring area to swim in (72 degrees year round), and a river to kayak in. No worries about gators in the springs.

As a reader of Randy Wayne White and Hiaasen, I'm of the opinion that it is nearly impossible to be in Florida for any length of time without being involved in at least one murder. Much like the Hollywood hills, it would appear.

Is that a vote in favor or against Florida? I can't tell based on your statement.
