AA, AAA and soem 9V. I've been using my NiMH for so long but they just don't work in my thermostats and some other things because of lower voltage.

What are the options if folks think Costco and Duracell leak too much? (and, IME, they do.)

Does AMZ offer anything worth buying?

I stopped using Duracell, Costco, store brand and other brands of alkaline batteries because all of them leaked at some point. Switched to Rayovac High Energy and haven't had a leaker as of yet. Here is a link to the AAA pack:

FWIW, it's just a matter of time before I come across a leaker. I just want to keep the quantity that leak to the minimum not only because of the cost of the batteries but as a means of preventing damage to the items into which I place them.

As much as I've switched to NiMH and other rechargeable batteries for many time, there are a few things that I use with alkaline batteries and only alkaline batteries. Our smoke and carbon monoxide detectors come to mind.

If you want rechargeable, buy the ones Mattkime suggested. For rechargeable, only lithium ion gives you 1.5 colts.

Amazon batteries leak like a full sponge. Often, a bunch have leaked into the shrink wrap before they shipped.

Energizer Lithium for me for most purposes.

Amazon for cheap stuff like toys that will probably break so I don’t care if the battery life is short and it’s no biggie when they leak.

I try to take the batteries out of anything that is not being used frequently, because they all leak. Harbor Freight are good enough for things where any brand battery will likely leak long before you actually use up a set.

I generally do the same. Only one of our emergency flash lights has batteries in it. In an emergency, we us it to get out of the building to our designated safe area. In the even of a plain ol' power outage, we use it to grab the rest of lamps and flashlights. The batteries are stored in the same location as each device.

Yes, they maintain 1.5v.

They don't last as long as alkaline, not even close.

They seem to have a high standby discharge rate (which seems counterintuitive), but I've put some in motion activated lights I had in my mailboxes, but they never needed to activate over the summer and with me working from home. But come standard time (i.e. it was dark when I checked the mail for the first time in a while) and they were dead.

For devices that have a low battery warning, you don't get that. I.e. some devices will continue to work but warn you as the (alkaline) voltage gets below 1.2V. With the li-ion rechargeables, the devices will work and then all of a sudden they don't.

Some of the batteries will just stop working and won't take a charge, and this is after only a few charge cycles. These batteries are too "expensive" (for what they are) for that to happen frequently.

Warranties are unclear. Where I bothered to inquire about it (for a battery that was dead) after 11 months, I was told the warranty was 6 months.

And they're rated in mWh instead of mAh like NiMH, so you have to do the math to compare them (although frankly, I think the mWh ratings are overstated).

That's funny. I just had a Black Friday Home Depot pack of Rayovacs that were 2 years old have 1/3 of them leaking when I opened the package (stored in the house, if that makes a difference). So, I bought some Kirkland's with last month's deal. We'll see how these do. Of course, if I'm ever unhappy with them leaking I can bring back the remainder. I figure a 10% leakage over several years is okay.

This has been my exact experience with some EBL NiMH batteries.

For that reason, and now Gareth's post, I'm even more loath to try their rechargeable Li-I cells.

I gave up on Duracells decades ago for the same reason as others — they leak terribly.

Now it's mainly eneloops, though 90% of my stock have reached their useful EOL.

They'll still work, but for a much shorter time.

I was going to get IKEA's rechargeables, possibly rebadged eneloops, but shipping makes them a tad more expensive than AMZ, especially if the latter has a deal on, and AMZ delivery is far more convenient.

For non-rechargeables, it's Eveready — alkaline or Li-I.

I think it depends upon the specific use case and discharge pattern. They work quite well with my smart locks but that result might not be replicated in other situations. I lose track how long they go between charges. I think at least six months.

energizer lithium (AA/AAA) or eneloop rechargeable batteries.

avoid 9V as much as possible...there's very little total power in those.

I switched from smoke detectors that use a 9V battery to a combo smoke/CO detector that uses two AAs.
