Just took part in a Zoom with a 100 year old Holocaust survivor....

One of our Jr. High teachers lined up a gentleman to speak to our Jr. High classes.
He's a Holocaust survivor, turns 100 this year. He has the number 142584 tatooed on his arm.

When he arrived at Auschwitz, Dr. Mengele got the new arrivals in line, and "sorted" them... Some went right, some went left. He went left. The ones that went right - went into Dr. Death's ward, and were never seen again.

Sobering talk by this amazing gentleman.
He's wrapping up now, talking about how he is booked for speaking for months, and spends a lot of his time educating people. The kids, to their credit, have been very respectful!

Wow. I am so glad the kids get to hear first hand about what went on.

Me too!
I remember we had a "nice little old lady" who helped out in our 3rd or 4th grade classroom when I was in elementary school (way back in the late 70's), who had this number tattooed on her arm... I didn't learn until high school what that meant. I really wish I'd had the chance to talk with her then (in High School).

Thank you for taking part. Hearing and recording these stories is so important, as that generation is dying out. For the last several years Pre-Covid, my father spoke at a local Catholic High School. They have a class on Genocide and the Holocaust where he shares his story/testimonial.

He is a Holocaust survivor as well, though it took many years for him to come to that realization, because he was not at any of the camps. He spent 1943-1945 being hidden in the French countryside at a Catholic boarding school (he was a child) after his father was deported to Auschwitz and murdered. He and my grandmother came to this country in 1949 when my Dad was 12 years old.

This is so important because there are people in the world who would be willing to make it happen again.

My kids heard their grandfather tell some limited stories of his time in a Russian death camp. They know…
