Yesterday, while out and about, I came up on a Tesla 3 maybe, I dunno some of them look too much alike to me.

But this caught my interest as it was all matte-black, all.

Well, all as in body and door handles, definitely a matte finish paint job.

I might have thought it a primer base except for the matching door handles.

Is this a factory color, or was the guy wanting a low radar signature.

Slight bunny trail, I've seen several fringe motorcycle riders go to ridiculous lengths to cover their sport bikes in black electrical tape for that very reason.

Frame, fork lowers, handlebars, plastics.

The one thing they didn't cover was the headlight/headlights, the most effective point on a bike and many cars in picking off revenue sources/s be it radar or lidar.

The driver was a 60-something male, glasses and snap-flat cap, forward lean, tooling along at the posted limit.

I've seen flat black motorcycle helmets, and one or two bikes had that as a factory color.

But a whole car?

Not factory color....most likely a wrap. Never knew matte protects from radar.

I'm obviously stereo-typing, but this guy just didn't seem like a member of a demographic that would go for matte black, which looked charcoal gray.

I've seen advertiser wrap on cars, and seen it mentioned here, but matte-black?

Maybe do that for a family member who drives at night, and has a lot of life insurance.

You'd be surprised at the number of people who think it does (in the context of matte paint on metal).

Wrap wouldn't fare any better, obviously.

Texas is a "both plates" state.
I'm told that revenuers usually aim at at your front plate, flat and reflective. I put a spacer behind mine to angle it about 3-5 degrees from 90. I've haven't been stopped since then, but I have no real idea if it helped.

I worked with a guy that sprayed his Honda with something like flat black Rhino Liner. Didn't look great but he previously suffered a lot of front end paint chips.

I would consider putting a wrap on my Integra and then spraying it with a VantaBlack clone.

Ohhhh, reeeeally?

The license plate, headlights, grille, and pretty much any flat surface will give a solid LIDAR return.

Most passive countermeasures don't, especially against modern kit.

A buddy who's a motor cop has handheld LIDAR and bike mounted radar.

If the left one don't get ya, the right one will.

Either can be beat, but they win far more than they lose.

But good luck with that one weird spacer trick 'hack'.

Saw one in a parking lot the other day. I thought they looked nice.

It's not a look for me, but I did admire how evenly it was done, thinking it had to be custom paint, if not a one weird factory option.

That's a lot of surface area for me, to be matte without being primer.

I've seen a couple of motorcycles that had factory matte black and matte OD green paint, and one that came with a matte black/gloss black scheme.

But I'm a high-gloss, 40 coats of clear kind of guy.
