Motorola Starmax, Dual 533 G4 and a beige G3 Tower… worth the time or effort?

My father is retiring and cleaning out his office building and today I acquired my old Dual 533 G4, Beige G3 Tower and a Motorola StarMax desktop. He did junk a bunch of older software before I got there but I didn’t have the energy to dig it out. I did want to mess around with the Starmax but not really sure I want to do much with it other than boot and maybe reload it. After that not sure what. Don’t even have a vintage CRT to go with it but I’m sure I could find one in about 5 minutes.

Any collectors out there who desire these?

My Starmax was a little flaky. Loved my beige Desktop G3. The G4 is dual boot.

Boy, there's a name from the past. My first "tower" was a Starmax. Did everything I wanted to do and saved me a few bucks by buying it instead of a real Mac. smiling smiley

Those bring back memories, bought all three myself. Still have the Dual 533 G4, it has a dual 1.73 GHz processor upgrade in it. Need to replace a cooling fan somewhere in it, otherwise it was working fine when I last ran it.

Also still have my StarMax 5500, it has a G3 processor upgrade. Had a Beige G3 that I purchased for my sons to use. That went to their mother's house, last I heard it was in storage after she changed job locations and sold that house.

It’s not particularly valuable but I’d encourage you to keep it.

There’s a Low End Mac selling page on Facebook. You could also sell them on eBay. Just don’t trash the ones you don’t want - there’s still a demand for them from the newer generation of “vintage computer” fans.

They have some nostalgia value but the problem is finding someone who will take them off your hands in a reasonable manner. Shipping these things can be a major boxing padding project. Wherever you post them, I’d ask next to nothing, and make no promises about how they work. Most (I think) had scsi drives which can be a bear to troubleshoot and get working. Power supplies in some were proprietary do getting them fixed (ie: dried up caps) would be problematic.

I ran for years on a 533mhz dual as my main computer. Bought used on eBay. It was always stable.
