What I dislike about Apple Music (the program)

I could write a dissertation on this topic but I'll hit my top items.

1) The search is terrible. It's been a downhill slide ever since they eliminated power search and it just seems to get worse with each update. It's a confusing terrible interface. The only good thing I can say about Music search is it's better than the TV search. Why they are different is a mystery.

2) It's so fragile. I blink and this program decides to move where files are located. Then it looses track of the files even if they are still there. Then it offers to locate them and relink similar missing files but it doesn't actually do anything. The topper is there's no built in feature to notify me when this is happening until one day I just have countless "!" next to music for no apparent reason.

3) The name is confusing. Why did Apple name two products with the identical name? It's impossible to search for tech support on the Apple Music program because all the results are for the far more popular Apple Music service.

Now I want to be fair and say something nice. The smart playlists are astoundingly good. Plex doesn't hold a candle to Music in this regard.

Ukulele music I couldn't find anywhere else.

Not just that, but trying to find help on the internet when one of your search terms is 'music' is impossible - ugh!! Also Photos, Mail, Messages, Books, Numbers, News - W T F apple??!!

though I can't say I love Music (heh, heh, heh, npi) I have no major complaints about it, but I only use it for Music, not TV or films; if it is capable of that like iTunes was (I assume it is).
The search function is great, but I find what I want.
Don't like right clicking in the current tune window to "go to current song" and finding myself in a different mode, but that's small.

But I just boarded a friends new mini with Ventura. Sys prefs is a fkn mess.

Each "update" of an OS, whether, IO or Android, windies, or whatever, adds more and more specific details that find the need for a search function within System Prefs (settings, whatever).

I want my wall mounted dial phone back.

I"m gonna guess you're talking about the macOS version.

So, I’m currently on a trip through the southwest and doing hours in the car. The curated playlists are pretty good, but they don’t last long enough. After an hour or so they begin to repeat. Then CarPlay, using Maps and Apple Music together, sucks so much bandwidth that by the second day T-Mobile started throttling me and I couldn’t run both at the same time.

I think this discussion is a great demonstration of just how confusing Apple's naming conventions are. I specified "Apple Music (the program)" which I thought would be specific. But here we are talking about Music on OSX, Music on IOS, and Music the streaming service all at the same time.

When I specified "program" I meant OSX but I could have been even more specific so I apologize for any confusion. As I go thru my library looking at all of these "!" marks I find that a tremendous amount of my music library has been duplicated by Music for unknown reasons. So now I need to cleanup the broken links AND get rid of duplicates How many hours will that take? It's ridiculous. There should be another option.

No, Dave. The application built-in on macOS is "Music". Apple's music streaming service is "Apple Music".

(And yes, I agree that Apple's naming conventions suck.)

Well any music streaming app is going to use a chunk of data...and i don't necessarily think Apple Music is the worst of those evils. I stream Apple Music frequently and often in conjunction with Maps or Waze.
During this month my data usage is 95 gigs, of which 21 gigs is Apple Music and another 4 gigs for Maps and Waze combined.

I see that T-Mobile gives 100 gigs of premium data on it's cheaper plans. It's hard to imaging that youre bumping the limit with just music and maps unless youre driving for a living. In that case, you probably need to bump up to a truly unlimited plan.
