I'll either fill it in the sink or use a pitcher to fill it on the stove.

Wish we'd put one in when we remodeled years ago.
But it is unnecessary kitchen candy.

I have a pull out spigot that reaches one burner on the stove. But really, unless you're too weak to lift a pot of water, quite unnecessary.

you still have to lift the pot once cooking is done.

Sure, but one less time than if one didn't have a pot filler.

Of course they're not necessary in 99% of all households.

That makes them merely a convenience for that 99%.

Being 'kitchen jewelry' and useful aren't mutually exclusive.

If one doesn't have a lot of disposable income, then by all means stay away.

But if convenience is appreciated, or some infirmity is made easier by its inclusion then get it, regardless of whether or not somebody thinks it candy or otherwise unnecessary.

That this is a question asked in this manner pretty much means the OP needn't bother.

I don't spend that much time in the kitchen, and with reason to put a pot of water in the microwave, any utility of a pot filler would be wasted on me.

So it's not worth the cost for me to install one, but if one was there, I'd certainly be using it.

Then there's what passes for logic with Grandpa:

We never had them when I was growing up!

One more thing to go wrong.

She's gotta carry it off the stove anyway, she can damn well carry it to the stove, no reason to make her lazy.

I never had much use for Gramps.

You, Sir, are a lucky man because that is the IDEAL setup. With a well thought out kitchen layout, a pot filler is redundant.

There's a little more to it than that. Some people can lift a full pot perfectly well, but aren't as stable on their feet as they'd like to be when both their hands are occupied carrying a full pot. If the sink is on a counter other than the one the stove is located on, that's an all but guaranteed slosh of water on the floor to have to mop up.

I voted "Yay" in the poll since there wasn't an option for "It depends, see post below". Mrbigstuff's setup renders a pot filler redundant and I am so jealous of him because my kitchen isn't arranged as well as his is. If you use a lot of water at the stove or have trouble getting a full pot of water from the sink to the stove, a pot filler would certainly come in handy, but Ombligo's suggestion of using a pitcher to fill the pot once it's already on the stove is a very good one too and, assuming one already has a pitcher, requires no installation or maintenance outside of washing the pitcher and replacing it if it breaks.

Nothing wrong with a bit of jewelry. Go for it!

The stove at our new house is on an island in the middle of the kitchen. I saw the Buzzfeed article with that picture last week and showed it to my wife. I had never seen that before, but she had. We probably boil water on the stove maybe once or twice a month, so it would be practically useless for us.

I think it is amusing that the picture used above would require moving before use. Making the faucet filler completely pointless.

Since I use the water from the Britta for boiling stuff - it's redundant. Dad had one put in and Mom NEVER used it. I tried it once, found a leak and shut the water off to it.

Only if you regularly fill big pots to feed 8+ people, like if you run a catering service or a rescue mission.

Imagine all of the fun you and your friends could have had in your childhood with one of those without the pot when your parents weren't watching. Way more fun than just turning on the burners, you could even play fireman and put out the flames with it.

Mrs. cbelt3 asked for one. I asked her if she knew of stove tops that included a drain. The conversation ended there.

In the past I worked in a couple restaurant kitchens. Spills and overflows would go through the stovetops and onto the floor. Plenty of floor drains to handle that, mats so people usually didn't slip.

Not something planned for in many home kitchens.

IF I was remodeling AND IF it was straightforward to pipe into the wall behind the stove I'd probably do it. Otherwise, fahgeddaboudit!

I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan
