You are aware that Ford used the "Mustang" name for their SUV EV, right?

I've owned two Mustangs, I will never call that station wagon a "Mustang". Its probably a nice car. Less ground clearance than a REAL Mustang.

“Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented." - Eli Weisel

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." - Theodore Roosevelt (1918)

"I don’t want to see religious bigotry in any form. It would disturb me if there was a wedding between the religious fundamentalists and the political right. The hard right has no interest in religion except to manipulate it." - Billy Graham 1981

"Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise" - Barry Goldwater

I'm curious whats going to happen with car enthusiasts once electric cars are the norm. I'm sure some will stay ICE forever. I wonder if simpler cars might allow for more variation in body styles. One can dream.

I'm aware that Mustang enthusiast do not consider the Mach E a Mustang... The specs look fun but seriously? Ford should of never used "mustang" in it's name.

Body styles will change once new tech for the driveline advances. But I doubt that we'll get spaceships.

I love Mustangs and this could be fun. However, I just wish we would see some nice new designs to compliment the future.

In the not too distant future you'll have to buy gasoline in 1 gallon cans at the hardware store for $30/gal, so I'd imagine most of the purist cars will either become museum pieces or be converted to EV. I realize it's hard for someone who loves gasoline engines to conceive of, but it's going to happen and faster than they believe. Most of Europe is already above 15-20% EV sales for new vehicles. Norway is north of 70%. The US is the laggard, mostly because Tesla can't keep up with demand. GM and Ford are trying to thread a needle of remaining solvent while ramping EV production unprofitably and still selling people ICE vehicles that will be obsolete and unsupported in 10 years.

I follow a handful of EV groups on FB; there's always the same group of old jackasses who turn up in the comments section, whooping and hollering about how EVs will never catch on, they're a fad; pretty much the same things horse people did when automobiles showed up.

I agree to an extent on Ford's use of the Mustang moniker on what is essentially an SUV. It's their IP, though; they can slap it on a truck if they want. Still and all, they should have at least done more Mustang styling (I know the rear takes its cues from the pony car, but the front grill/headlights should have as well.)

I tend to gravitate toward quirky cars (Beetle, Element, Fiat, Honda One, etc.) and it's kind of sad that everyone seems to be gravitating to a similar 'small SUV' body shape. There's a pic floating around FB & Twitter showing that right now (18 or so car profiles, all done in white, showing their similar lines).

What Kindred and Electric Classic Cars are doing, I hope will catch on. Rescue some rusting metal that shouldn't be left to time.

I desperately want a functional 66 EV Covair, or for GM to revive the line as a modern EV. People still comment that it doesn't look like a US car.

There ARE still farriers... and saddlers... and wheelwrights... and wainwrights... available to those who need them.

Shouldn't be any different for dedicated ICE vehicle owners for decades and decades.

I think they have already tainted the name thru the years. With the Mustang II in the 70s and pretty much any 80s iteration of the "Mustang."

I love the unique & rare use cases they dream up to "prove" that EV's won't work.

"What if it's negative 100 degrees and I need to tow 150,000 pounds 1000 miles w/o stopping?"

gasoline will be with us for a long, long time. diesel will also be with us for a long, long time. no one alive today will have a problem buying either one of those petroleum products, but I agree that they will become specialized and possibly more expensive.

Just trolls. I haven't been totally sold on the EV's yet. Just think our infrastructure isn't ready (They are working on it I know) and I'm hoping they have a better solution for replacements and disposing of them safely. I'm not sure if the stories of it taking hours and hours and hundreds of gallons of water to put out an EV fire are true or just propaganda. I'm ready to move forward whenever it's time for me to buy one.

You can see Neil Young driving his '59 Lincoln EV up and down PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) on a regular basis from his Malibu pals' to the city in LA when he's in town. His own Malibu area digs famously burned in one of our big fires a few years ago, before the pandemic. It ain't a '67 Mustang, but it's a classic EV in its own right.

nice car Neil.

Friend has 2 hybrid Toy Influenza SUVs.
One, batt fried 2 times in the 3 months he's owned it.
Apparently having something to do with the computer is on all the time due to GPS/stolen car considerations the way Toy rigs it (and prolly any other).
The car needs to be driven regularly in order to maintain the batts.

In any case, Toy replaced following some mumbo jumbo with him.

He bought a Battery Tender trickle charger for when it doesn't get used enough.

I'm hoping for some standardized, drop-in crate EV conversion, like the LS-swaps people do today.

Love my 3rd generation Camry, but it has an oil leak I'm still trying to get fixed.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

Plenty of rear drive only ICE cars with less hp/torque that are faster.

Just a little pricier than a LS-swap.smiling smiley

Probably due to launch control and getting the power down at lower speeds. There are numerous cars that smack the traction control so badly they have absolutely no use for the power they have. The only benefit is that while many cars are made (geared, etc.) to get the best magic 0-60 time, and die badly at higher speeds, with power like that, I'm sure it continues to be extremely responsive at higher speeds.

Thanks for this. It's the most likely scenario, choosing a tradeoff of low speed acceleration for high speed acceleration.

Fast cars have existed for over 50 years. I knew someone in high school that had a Roadrunner that could run a sub 12 second 1/4 mile, and acquaintances in Sea Scouts also had fast cars. One had 59 Corvette that would run 13s, another had a Falcon that could almost keep up with the Roadrunner. Not long after that the turbo Porsche quickly developed a reputation for crashing backwards in the hands of drivers without enough experience. Ford is one of the worst recent enablers of this, just search for ["cars and coffee" "crash" "mustang" OR "Shelby"].
