Let's get small. New to me SE 1st gen

Using my phone mostly just as a phone led me to wonder why I was on the bigger-is-better train. The 6s I was using was bigger than I need. It was heavier and the thinness made it awkward to handle. It felt bulky in my pocket. I don't even want to think about what it's like to lug one of the new ones around.

So, I got a 1st generation SE from Swappa and love it so far. Fits my pockets and my hand better. I like the thickness too, much easier to hold for one-hand photos. Would have been nice if it had the better camera resolution. My only real concern is how long it will be viable--it's the last of this iphone 5 form factor. Chances of Apple reviving the size are what, nil or less?

true, but not quite as small as the OG SE.

I, too, wasn't too happy to give up my OG SE. Would gladly switch back if they came out with a new similar model, but it doesn't seem that sales trends would support it, as the mini has always been the lowest-selling model.

on the other hand, as you get older, your eyes will appreciate a larger screen.

We have 12 mini's and I was planning on trading them in for 14 pro's on the Black Friday week of them being valued at $800 from T-Mobile. But there were no 14 pro's in company stores around here so I didn't trade them. Now I'm thinking of just keeping them and seeing what the (anticipated-by-me) SE 2024's look like. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple didn't use the 12 mini frame for the SE 2024. If they do that, then the SE 2024 might be my next move.

but not if the text size is the same, given the screen resolution. one can always change the display characteristics, but not the physical size of the thing in your hand trying to use it.

true, but larger fonts on a small screen gets hard to use at some point.
Also it's not only text, think about watching a movie.

I went from an original SE to a 7, and I really like the screen size increase, and it's not that much bigger in my pocket.

I went from the original SE to a Mini 13 a couple of months ago.

I'm glad I did.

I did like the bigger screen of the 6s, but I carry my phone on me all the time, and the bulk started to bug me (I'm of small stature). I don't watch movies on my phone, so that's not an issue for me. I use it for calls, texting, email, an occasional web lookup, and for tweaking my hearing aids. Good info about the in between sizes. I had carried my 5s around for a day and really liked it, so I only looked the original SE. But in America, bigger is better, right?

I thought to myself, “why would he want an old SE?”

I've got a couple of OG SEs, but my favorited concealed carry was the 5s.

A change in lens Rx and a small bump in font size kept is perfectly useable for me.

But it was getting left behind, tapping out at iOS 12.5.5.

So after almost five years of great service, I went with a 12 mini.

Every so often I compare it to an OS SE and wish there'd be a 2023 version, because it was a great size, even with my larger mitts.

I don't know that there will ever be another mini, and if there is, it'll be larger than the 12 and 13 minis.

Heck, yeah...the SE/30 was my first Mac, ordered with the 4/80 option...that's 4MB RAM, 80MB hard drive.

Kept it for over 5 years by adding a video card & external color monitor...Seiko @ $700 instead of Apple @ $1,000.

I have an 2020 SE and been thinking about a new phone, my only issue is I love the home button.

I briefly thought I lost my phone this summer and went out the next day and bought a 12 mini - used it for a half day and old phone turned up (fell under my car seat at night - find my phone was off or battery had died)

Drove me crazy not having a Home Button. Lost a little money going back to my old phone (restock fee) but I got out of the monthly AT&T payments.

I want another iPHone SE but no specials via AT&T - they are giving away iPhone 14's but a 2022 SE is $12 per month on my bill for 36 months

Confidence is high.

With just a little care, the hardware will probably outlive the iOS upgrade path.

Barring unforeseen catastrophic failure, I'd say the only other concern would be replacing the battery.

At some point Apple will declare it obsolete and not replace the battery.

I'd consider getting the battery replace by Apple when they categorize it as Vintage.

Beyond that means a DIY job or finding some reliable commercial enterprise.

If there's no 15 mini, I'll try for a 13 mini, and keep it 'till life support is needed.
