Help! Complicated Mac Mail closed account problem

So, I retired from my job in February, and my work google mail account (xxxx.gov) was closed. However, I still have that account listed as one of my mailboxes on my MBPR and I also have a ton of emails I want to keep in folders under "On My Mac". I think I put them there via either the Export or Archive function but I can't remember for sure. I would like to be able to get rid of my work inbox (so that Mail stops bugging me for a password) but keep the emails available for me to be able to read. I'm a little worried that I'll lose everything if I get rid of the work mailbox. Can anyone give me advice on this?

Also, I'm current running this in Mojave on one partition and am planning to migrate everything over to Monterey that I have installed on another partition (and eventually delete the Mojave partition). The mail app on the Monterey partition does not have the work account mailbox on it currently. How can I move my "On My Mac" folders over from Mojave to Monterey?

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

For a minimum risk of loss test -
Export the mailbox, move the mailbox, and import the mailbox... I think that should NOT bring the "account" with it, just the mail in that box.

Hope that made sense.

I believe that's what I did when I had this issue, although a bunch of years ago now (left the job). Good luck.

In Mail, create a new Mailbox on your Mac. Go to the Gmail Inbox. Select all. Drag them to you just-created new Mailbox on your Mac. Now they are yours and no one but you can destroy them. I have a gmail mailbox and I do this all of the time. I then delete them online at my gmail account. My gmail account inbox is empty and all of those emails aRE in my grasp on my Mac.

I think I will just put an OUT OF ORDER
