An extremely unlikely craigslist email turns out to be a real person wanting to buy my mbp locally

I've seen almost everything buying and selling stuff, so I know to never just ignore an inquiry.

What odds would you have given to this message that arrived at 1:45AM?

"Hi,

Wish to enquire if possible to buy your Mac Laptop."

I reply the next morning, 'Let me know if you want to meet to see it - address is in the listing'

He replies 24 hours later:

"Hi, Yes, I wish to see the laptop. But your location is a bit far for me, what we can do about , I wish to purchase this laptop.."

My eyes are rolling here, but I reply and we eventually arranged a meeting and a sale - yay! I ALWAYS stay engaged right up to the point that they suggest paying 3x and shipping, but sometimes it just looks like a scam, but isn't

Do you have one of those pens that verify that the currency isn’t counterfeit?

Saint Cloud, Minnesota, where the weather is wonderful even when it isn't.

I don't quite understand how a real person wanting to buy my mbp locally is compatible with but your location is a bit far for me.

My thought exactly. Many years ago, I sold an unopened iPad through Craigslist. Only when I went to deposit the cash did I find out that the buyer gave me counterfeit bills. I hope your outcome is more positive.

That could easily happen in some bigger cities. Hal isn't in the Los Angeles area, but just as an example, LA is about 500 square miles of city.

I see. Here in this neck of the woods, 5 min is all it takes to go to the next town.

Sacramento - raining all day and he's south of town, me north

he said it took him 50 min - that's 'a bit far'

Glad that you had a good experience. I sometimes need to ask for a bit for location information especially when for times when my work schedule or car availability makes it necessary. And if I spot something that I really want, I will email/contact at odd hours either because I want to get first shot at it or I’m on an odd work schedule. Either way, I assume that the recipient will be picking it up in the morning. My 2 cents

modern bills are pretty easy to spot counterfeits these days.
magnetic strip under bright light.
threaded paper.
raised print.
and Jefferson is NOT on the $50.

yeah - I don't worry about this stuff anymore. Unless someone can figure out how to do the face that can only be seen in the light thing PLUS the strip of whatever it is - I don't see how that stuff gets duplicated

those new $5 bills look shady though...

the fivers have all the same security. Dunno about the ones.
I have the same $20s & $10s I've had in my wallet for a least the last 6 months. Almost every purchase other than the farmers market is plastic.

Shady, as in Abe looks a little ...?
