holy @#$%&!

Anyone see the Netherlands tie Argentina in the 101st minute? Wow...

edit - People who know the game better than me can answer - shouldn't Messi have been pulled late in the game?

>shouldn't Messi have been pulled late in the game

Why?

At very least, I think they'd like him to take a penality

Messi has a really great ability to just know where to stand on the field. But you're right, he's not someone who gets back on defense.

IMO the quarterfinals have been better games than you often see in championships in pro sports here in the US.

That game was classic, two very good teams really going at it, raw emotions, unusual events.

No, Messi shouldn't have been pulled. They needed him for the penalty kick. He is also still one of the great offensive talents.

France against England ought to be interesting. France has an offensive star with Olympic sprinter speed and lots of scoring to show for it.

Brilliant game! It would have been stupid to pull Messi for multiple reasons. "Getting back on defense) is not something that Messi does and not something that was needed. He needed to stay on offense so that the Netherlands had to keep their players back on defense. Also, he is brilliant in penalty shootouts and that was a very likely outcome. With Messi gone they would have played a much more offensive final minutes and may have lost one more of those penalty kicks. That said, I think that he should probably have been given a yellow card for that handball and that might have resulted in him being ejected since he later received another yellow card.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan
