Are you guys OK?

Sounds like there's a massive winter storm causing havoc in the eastern United States. We're lucky to live on the west coast so don't have too much to worry about. How are you east coasters and midwesterners doing?

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

Thanks for asking.
Cold but not snow here on the East Coast.
You have fires and earthquakes and drought, but nice weather smiling smiley

Exactly! I'll take the cold and the seasonal weather, thank you.

This was very much normal for the midwest. Perhaps on the colder side of normal, but normal none the less.

Cold, lots of snow, and slick roads. Fireplace is warm though.

Here in my part of upstate SC, it was 7 degrees F, and electricity was out for about 8 hours. It didn’t affect me, however, as I had just been admitted to hospital for emergency surgery. Nice and toasty warm on the ward, and cable tv! Score!

(Surgery was downgraded from emergency to elective, and happens tomorrow. Wish me luck.)

So sorry you had to go to the hospital. Hope your surgery goes well and you are out soon.

this is from Buffalo. 60+ mph winds for two days straight caused the 2.5foot snowfall to drift a lot.

If this was from the previous storm South of the City of Buffalo, imagine the snow at least twice as high.

So getting admitted to surgery is a good thing? Sorry, but I just can't relate. My sympathies to you and get well soon!

All well here in Cleveland. High winds and blowing snow made driving around in white out conditions an exercise in caution and slow. And then laughing at the huge 4WD pickups that blew past my little Subaru. And ended up in the ditch a mile on.

Lake Erie is only frozen for perhaps 100 yards, not enough for lake effect snow to hit my close to the lake town.

In the last 24hours we had predictions for 1/4in-1/2in of ice, sleet, hail, freezing rain, 4in of snow, flooding and now high winds from 25-55mph. It’s been a roller coaster

Is the lake frozen enough to keep drunken morons from taking their snowmobiles out on the ice ? My dad used to tell me stories about dumb shenanigans on Lake Winnebago.

Saturday (8 degrees and windy when I left home at 7:30 AM) was the worst day for me, with Sunday a close second. Had to be out running around to jobs, with transit on holiday schedules. This cold weather hardship FORCED me to eat two amazing fudge brownies from the Buttercup Bake Shop, which was unexpectedly open when I walked past Sunday on my way to a bus stop.

Being at the ;lowest point of the Pioneer Valley in Western Mass, all I got from the storm was wind and a ton of rain. Now we still have a few roads closed that run close to rivers due to flooding, with the run off.
Relatives living about 25 miles north of us reported getting 21 inches of snow.

Thanks for the well wishes, all.
Surgery went well, gall bladder is out, pain controlled with Tylenol.

It was not a fun experience, and I’m glad the ordeal is (probably) over. There is a gigantic number of much, much worse things to go through medically, but still, I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. It is quite alarming to hear agonized screams involuntarily coming from your own mouth. If it had been a kidney stone, I’d have blown a vocal cord.

My wife and I did get to watch Hallmark Christmas smoochy movies on hospital TV over Christmas during the two days the surgeons left me hanging, all of them having taken a break for Christmas. (That’s nothing compared with the gastroenterologists, who didn’t even have anyone covering for them in case of emergencies. They were consulted on day#2. I’m home now on day#6, never having even seen them. They’d better not try to bill me).

Thanks again, everyone, and have a great New Year!

.....good to hear all went well....!!!

....had appendicitis a few years ago.....called 911, as I was vomiting. It was a Sunday, they had me wait in hallway for most of the day, got a test and they found out it hadn't burst so it was 'not an emergency'......finally got a room and it took 2 days for them to perform surgery.....in the meantime, it was very uncomfortable with an inflammed appendix.....

S. Pupp, I’m glad to hear that’s over and done.
I guess it’s standard procedure not to rush into surgery, but it still sounds like an awful experience, Newt.
Again, happy to hear it went well.

I knew it. Gall bladder was my first and only guess. I almost posted, is it your gall bladder? Lol
I have know that awful pain, second only to giving birth, in my case.
Glad it is gone. Mine has been gone a long time, over 20 years.
