Never mind. Just found out what's going on.

Had me confused, as a bunch of legit sites were promoting it.

It's legit; some hoop jumping required, but downloads and runs fine on M2MBP with product key purchased.

I did the purchase to get usable Office software to read the .doc[x], .xls[x] attachments that people send my way. LibreOffice and OpenOffice have issues with some of them, MS seems to deal with those OK. And of course virii just add to the excitement/excrement.

I purchased it. As others noted, some weird hoops and confusion, but it eventually showed up on "my" MS dashboard, and I'm now running updated Office.

I think RonBarker is an MS shill but, if I had it all to do over again, I would have thought more about it before I took the plunge. No problems with Office, no problems with unauthorized charges on my card but there are enough people out there who seem to have had genuine problems with stack social or some of the other sellers. So whether it’s real or a scam depends on how it turns out for you. No guts, no glory. Just cross your fingers.
