Jeremy Renner 'Critical but Stable' After Snow-Plowing Accident

......Mayor of Kingstown star Jeremy Renner was injured while plowing snow Sunday.

“We can confirm Jeremy is in critical but stable condition with injuries suffered after experiencing a weather related accident while plowing snow earlier today,” Renner’s publicist told Variety. “His family is with him, and he is receiving excellent care.”

Per Nevada’s Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement officials arrived on the scene — which was in the area of Reno’s Mt. Rose Highway — around 9 am Sunday in response to a traumatic injury. Renner, who was the only person involved in the accident, was later airlifted to a hospital. The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident......

Renner, who was the only person involved in the accident...

What do you suppose happened?

Missed the road and rolled the plow??

(Wishing him well.)

I suspect it did involve turning the plow over onto himself. Maybe he was going on too steep a slope.
When I used to mow a lot of land with a riding mower I was often afraid of rolling it over on the slopes that had to be cut horizontally.
Wishing him the best

Yikes. That guy is a good actor, I'm a fan (in most although not all) of his films.

The footage I saw showed him driving a full-fledged Sno-Cat, not a plow.

I think I'd winter somewhere that doesn't get feet of snow at a time or hire such a big job out.

I hope he mends well, to 100%.

There are only a few things I've seen him in other than occasional one-offs on TV shows.

I like him in The Unusuals and especially Hawkeye.

Wind River was also very good.

Aside from a couple of MIs and one of the Avengers movies, I haven't seem much else.

I've yet to checkout Mayor.

No second season of Hawkeye was a disappointment, but I guess there was never any plan for more than one.

That's the one I think of. He had a better Boston accent than Affleck, too.

Hurt Locker also very good.

If you're not wearing a seat belt, you can do some serious damage if your plow hits something immovable.

significant trauma to the chest and extremities is the latest. From all reports he's a nice guy, and his family is by his side. I hope he recovers into the arms of his family. Anything else is a bonus, but being alive for your family is the most important.

“ According to TMZ, the 'Hawkeye' actor was alone and trying to clear a path out of his Lake Tahoe home when the machine accidentally ran over one of his legs, causing him to lose a significant amount of blood.
Speaking to the outlet, eyewitnesses said that Mr Renner was plowing the road about a quarter mile from his home so that his family could get out after a massive New Year's eve storm. The plowing machine - called a Snowcat - then accidentally ran over one of his legs.

According to TMZ, after the freak accident, the area was treated like an active crime scene. One of Mr Renner's neighbours, who's a doctor, managed to place a tourniquet on the 'Avengers' star's leg until paramedics arrived to fly him to the hospital. His injuries are "extensive" as along with his leg, other parts of his body have also been injured, the media outlet reported. “

Marvel actor Jeremy Renner will undergo a second surgery as he remains in intensive care with 'extensive injuries' following an accident involving a snow plow.

The star suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries after the snowcat he was using to plow his driveway ran him over.

Renner, 51, underwent his first surgery earlier on Monday January 2, as part of an extensive recovery process but it has now been revealed that the superhero star will require further operations on what will be a long road to recovery.

He had a PistenBully groomer, aka "Snowcat."

It looks like this:

A source is saying that the safeties failed and it rolled and threw him out of the cabin. (It doesn't look that easy to get thrown from the cabin. Maybe he was exiting the machine when it happened.)

Police have impounded the Snowcat for investigation. Allegedly, the machine has extensive safety features, and should not have rolled.

Looking at it, my uninformed guess is he stepped out on the tracks and it was still in gear. He was then pulled under the tracks which would both crush and cut. The fact that a doctor applied a tourniquet at the scene says the bleeding was uncontrollable.

Things like these should have an automatic stop if the drivers gets up from their seat.

My thoughts also, or if not in gear, had just enough movement to crush his leg.

That makes the most sense.
Like someone else pointed out, there is usually some sort of cut-off switch in the seat that should have prevented that type of accident.

......the details of the accident are out.....

....Balaam noted the “severe winter weather” in the area, where as much as 3 feet of new snow had fallen the night before as part of a winter storm. He also for the first time provided details of the accident, in which Renner used his Sno-Cat to free a vehicle of his, driven by a family member, from being stuck in snow near his Mt. Rose home about 25 miles outside Reno.

After Renner was able to free the car, Balaam said the actor got out of the Sno-Cat (aka a PistenBully) to talk to the family member, at which time the machine, which weighs more than 14,000 pounds, started to slide forward. Renner then attempted to stop it when the accident occurred.

“We don’t suspect any foul play,” Balaam said.

Answering questions from local media, the Reno-area sheriff today said the Sno-Cat is in the possession of the police and being inspected for mechanical failure and other issues.......

‘ A family member driving Renner's car had got stuck in the snow near his house, the sheriff said. Using his snow plough, Renner successfully towed the car free.
He then got out to talk to his relative, but the snow plough began to move while empty.
Renner was trying to get back into the driver's seat to stop it moving, when the "extremely large" piece of equipment ran him over, Mr Balaam said.
The PistenBully weighs at least 14,330lb, he said. The average weight of a car, according to the US Environmental Protection Agency, is 4,289lb.
"An eyewitness detailed seeing Mr Renner getting into the PistenBully and not seeing him again until the PistenBully came to a rest in a pile of snow in front of his driveway," Mr Balaam said. ‘
