tried to open/import a new library with option key while launching Photos.

This is the directory from the old iPhoto.

saw no sign of progress.
or is this gonna take a long time?
or is there a more efficient way?

the other folders that are not iPhoto library are mostly individual photos or vids.

If it does not work directly, can you upgrade the iPhoto library to Photos?

If not, maybe use iCloud Photos?

What version of iPhoto?

If v8 or earlier, you can convert the library with a special app. (I think v8 might have come with Mavericks.)

It should then import smoothly into Photos.

...32-bit app, need to run it under Mojave or earlier.

apparently I've never merged photo libs since my G5 .... maybe even the PowerMac G3 Beige.
I'm 5 Macs after that.

My Emby server (MP3,1) is running High Sierra.
HS version of Photos (v3) took the old iPhoto library and imported, without having to use the tool.
Though thanks for the link Tiangou.

There are some strays that were from previous Macs (and OS back to 10.5) that weren't in the library that'll have to be imported.

Even as small as this is, I think you can tell there were a few dupes.
Out of 18000 iPhotos, 12000 were dupes.

Looks like I'll pick up ~30G from one of int drives on the MP3,1.

go clean up your room!
