BMW is developing a full-screen head-up display

I test drove a car with a small heads up 5 years ago.
Found it very distracting.
I can't imagine being less so.

I love the small heads up displays, more so on BMW than on Volvo (particularly as the new one integrates CarPlay), but both are useful. Not sure about the full screen one depicted in the linked article, though.

I've got the BMW i4 with a HUD and I absolutely love it. It shows my current speed, the speed limit, and shows very basic directions if you have navigation on. It takes a little time to get used to, but after a short time (few days) it fades into the background (or would it be foreground) and you only see it when you need it.

When I drive my old car, I miss it.

It's a car, not an F-35 requiring a year of intensive training.

"The most basic of these shows the information you'd need while driving—speed, directions, and so on. More information-dense stages add in infotainment and communications...the entire car is covered in e-ink panels—240 individually controlled segments, each of which can display up to 32 colors"

Great - so not only will the driver of this vehicle be distracted, but anyone else within visual range of it as well, when the driver decides that the 240 panels on the car need to all be constantly flashing every possible color (out of unison, of course), at as fast a rate as possible.

But it's a BMW, so training is required to drive like a total A hole.

my feeling exactly. $100 of bs to add $3000 to the MSRP.
I prefer that stuff on the drivers screen. I can see when I need to.
Driving is enough distraction.

Those are two fugly cars. I'm talking just a step or two above Aztec ugly. At least with a HUD I would not have to look at the car.
