I can't stand stuff that touches my...

Starting a few months ago, I can no longer stand stuff that touches my neck. The front side of my neck, the back is OK. When I bike, the helmet strap touching my neck makes me very uncomfortable to the point where I prefer to bite into it, i.e. hold it with my teeth instead of touching my neck. Or a try to put it on my chin.

Same with a pull over with long zipper, scarf, etc.

Now I cannot wear headphones. It feels like they are squeezing my head. I used these headphones for years without problems. Now I can't.

This is all in my mind. How do I fix it?

In vivo exposure and systematic desensitisation.

gadje...
it may very well NOT be 'in your head'. Our nervous systems are weird. immune responses often create unexpected issues. Definitely have a conversation with a medical professional.

single point reference:
Mrs. cbelt3 has fibromyalgia, which is believed to be an auto immune disorder that attacks the nervous system. During attacks, she cannot bear to wear.. .socks. Any socks. They feel like her feet are being stabbed.

There were a few days when that option had its appeal. I had the same problem with things touching my neck. For me switching from crew neck t-shirts to v-neck t-shirts alleviated much of it. I also haven't worn a neck tie since.

It may not be "all in your head". Bodies change, alignments change, creating different sensitivities.
And it doesn't mean that anything's wrong, per se.

Just keep observing. See if there's any other part of you that is starting to have a similar response. Take a good look at how you are standing/sitting. There can be gradual shifts in posture, that one doesn't notice over time, that can trigger a whole bunch of responses.

I have had a number of experiences like this. I take it as information, as long as it's not debilitating or extreme, to be used in context with everything else.
