16 years ago today, at MacWorld expo San Francisco, Steve Jobs unveiled the iPhone.

It was exactly at 9:42 AM, January 9. A bit of trivia, that is why, any pictures of the iPhone show 9:42, because after many rehearsals, that is the time during the presentation, when Steve Jobs actually pulled the phone out of the pocket of his blue jeans.
I was lucky enough to be at MacWorld that day, not lucky enough to attend the Keynote.
I was able to view the iPhone inside a round, clear, plexiglass cylinder, less than 4 feet from Steve Jobs.
It was a seminal day for Apple, tech, and myself. It changed the world, mostly for the good.

I wonder if, in 4 years, we will see a "20th anniversary iPhone" and what it would be? A retro styled device like the original iPhone but with all the modern tech?

I wasn’t able to watch the live feed, had to follow it via incremental blog posts.

And it was STILL mesmerizing.

I was just thinking the other day about how long it's been since I've watched any apple presentation and then thought longingly about those days of watching on a postage stamp sized window with total excitment.

Maybe I'll rewatch the iphone intro just for kicks

As was I.

There were rumors about what it would be called, and iPhone seemed like a natural, but Cisco already had that, so what would it be.

And when Steve called it the iPhone, there was an uh-oh moment, and then it quickly passed.

I took pics with my LG flip phone, and don't think I ever took them off.

That cylinder was crowed every time I passed by.

This was something special.

From the time of the very first rumors of an Apple phone, I knew I would have one.

Not just because it would be by Apple, but because I know it would be revolutionary.

Because it would be by Apple.

My girlfriend and I got ours on Day One, and we were thrilled.

The mass adoption was slow, and there was a lot of hate.

Detractors and haters talked about how somebody already this or that technology on other phones, but none of them acknowledged that nobody had combined them all into one device.

Among a sea of flip phones and BlackBerries, everybody wanted to see my iPhone.

They'd talk smack about the iPhone and how Steve stole this and that.

But when I said I have an iPhone, nobody didn't want to see it.

Everyone was way WOWED! and haters had to regain their composure.

But beyond all of that, it changed the world.

I've still got mine in a drawer, and have wondered if the battery could be replaced now, and who could be trusted to do it.

I don't know if it would even work on todays networks.

That was a day, my friends, that I didn't want to ever end.

I still miss MWSF.

The one before that was my first, I think, but I never missed one after that, even though they were declining, it was still a great time for me.

I remember being invited to Apple offices to watch the announcement via satellite feed, they really wanted our feedback on this game changer of a poorly kept secret. Everyone knew he was going to announce a phone, but no one knew WHAT it was going to be. The best expectation at the time was an official Apple-branded abomination like the Motorola ROKR.

I'll never forget chanting along "It's a phone. It's a camera. It's a web browser."

Not sure if the original one will work-It used the ATT Edge network. Hard to believe we thought that was....fast?

I took Photos of the iPhone under plexiglass with my Sony Ericsson Z520a that had Polymorphic ringtones.

I think that was the last Macworld I attended and I was in the keynote audience that year.

I had a Treo "smartphone" on Verizon and didn't want to switch to AT&T but I think I finally switched over with the iPhone 3GS a few years later.

Been with AT&T ever since....

Until one of the recent iOS updates - I always had the Clownfish Lock Screen on my iPhone.

I remember the iPhone in the Case on the show floor and everybody was crowded around it all day long

Good times....

I would love that. My iPhone 1 looks brand new and I never bought a case for it. I threw it in my purse, I dropped it on occasion although not often because it wasn't one bit slippery, the glass isn't even scratched. I have never gotten rid of it and store it in a drawer, because I still love it despite it being totally obsolete. I dislike the fragile chi-chi iPhone's slippery body and would love one built like a tank again.

Quite frankly I think the world would be a better place without the smartphone.

I am still on the original iPhone SE 2020 because I like the home button - especially with the fingerprint to unlock it.

My battery life is going (I'm surrounded by my chargers throughout the day - work, car, desk, bedside) but I don't see too much of advantage with the new SE and some of the new Pro models look good feature wise but I like a physical home button for some reason.

I would like to see a 20th anniversary iPhone with the power of newer models with a throwback home button
