Just wondering what percentage of people believe this (in light of a potential investment opportunity in Tesla stock). If most people believe the Cybertruck is vaporware, what would happen to its stock price once start Tesla starts delivering them?

I don't follow TSLA, but I gotta wonder how anyone can believe anything that Tesla HQ says. I think the truck is vaporware in that I can easily see Musk claiming that it's almost ready for years while knowing damned well he isn't close. I DON'T TRUST THE GUY.

But what do I know? Not much - only that I will not be owning a tesla EVER.

If he's ejected from the ceo and BoD (SOON), that may well change things in my mind.

In the mean time, I'm happy to take potshots from the sidelines.

It's late... Just like everything Elon delivers.
He has an issue with "optimistic timelines" when announcing things.
I've grown used to it. As he said about Starship "we're experts at turning the impossible into the merely 'late'...".
Cybertruck is late. Full Self Driving is late. The Model 3 and Model Y were late. The Model S was late. The Gigafactory (the first one) was late... big deal.

For Tesla's bottomline, it better be vaporware. It is going to be a distant third or fourth (if that) behind traditional looking pickups coming from the big three. If it does eventually appear, I think it will be discontinued within five years.

It took them a long time to get it together with X, 3, and Y. Getting up to speed and capacity takes time, especially for a carmaker with so little experience and footprint. But they're cranking up now.

Still, the whole truck BEV deal seems a bit off. Aside from folks who just want to look cool in a truck, those who use them for a living, to haul stuff around, etc. are going to have a hard time with the limited range once they load those suckers up.

And they can only weigh the thing down so far with batteries before that becomes a problem. Everyone's hoping for some EE miracle that will make the current heavyweight batteries seem like lead-acid did just 25 years ago.

Someone will crack that code - and whoever does will be the next multi billionaire.

The SO is committed to the cyber truck no matter when or what it looks like when it comes out. It’s FUGLY and I wouldn’t be caught dead in it.

I’d rather apply some of Tesla’s good design to the F-150 Lightning.

OR be able to test drive a Rivian before I commit to buying it. I’m impressed with the Rivian but the charging network isn’t robust enough for me.

The people that Musk are alienating are more likely to but that Fugly Cybertruck while the people he is courting with his current politics want trucks that look like what Ford, Chevy, and eventually Ram will manufacture. Ford is selling more electric F150 than they can make.

I have a friend that put down money on the CT and now is moving toward the F150. He isn't amused by Musk's overt political push. As Michael Jordan may or may not have said, and I paraphrase, people of both political sides buy sneakers too.

Yeah, looks like they are going to ride this demand to more profits. I was interested at the $40k price but I figured it was too good to be true. Bottom line, The electric F150 is shipping to customers.

The Maverick would be fine for my needs, but so would a 15-year-old F150 for less than $10k. I only drive around 300 miles a month.

I agree that the cybertruck is a bit too weird looking for my tastes, but I don't understand how anyone can think that the latest crop of Ford, Dodge, and GM monster trucks look good. Most of them are hideous and look like their designs came out of drawings made by 9-year olds right after getting hyped up on caffeinated soft drinks at the latest transformers movie.

The cyber truck is just late, not vaporware.

But the $30k model 3 was bogus. Beyond aspirational, and he knew it.

Full self-driving was intended to be a product. Not sure it will ever truly ship though.

I like the F-150 but wouldn't buy it. 100 mile range when towing or heavily loaded. Cyber truck won't do much better. The only people who will buy one are people who don't use a truck as a true truck. Maybe weekend runs to Home Depot, etc. Otherwise, it's useless as a truck until it can get 300 miles per charge when being used like a truck.

I am a Rivian fanboi, so I need to step in here ;)

Rivians use the same charging network that all EVs use (ex. Tesla, of course).

Rivian does have its own (Adventure network), but it can use Electrify America, EVGo, Chargepoint, etc. And if Tesla opens up its supercharging network (another thing Musk said he will do that he has not done), Rivians can use that, too.

So your point only holds if you consider the overall charging infrastructure to not be robust (and many people do). But it is not limited to Rivian's own chargers.

And depending on your use case, you might not need to charge outside the home that much. I have had my GV-60 for 4 months and I only used public chargers when I drove it home from the dealer (6 hour drive). Since then, I have used level 1, then Level 2 charging in my garage. I only drive 30-40 mile a day, and 70-80 on weekends when I go to the lake.

I wanted to drive 360 miles for our holiday trip, but the GV-60 was too small, so we took the ICE car. I wanted to drive it 180 miles to the airport for our vacation trip, but my wife said, "You're car is too nice to leave in a parking garage for a week!" So again, we took the ICE car.

As far as test drives, look for Rivian "First Drive" events in your area.

Most of my needs for a truck for our farm involve traveling to destinations within 30 miles. Rarely do I need to truck out to 60 miles.

I think a Ford F-150 Lightning would suit our needs very well. All the times it's not being used as a truck it would replace our small gas-powered sedan for trips to town. We would charge it overnight at 240v. I could charge it via solar if we felt the grid was too expensive (or was unavailable). Yep, it would suit us very well. The only issues I currently don't like are the price tag, the battery chemistry, and the lack of a heat pump. The latter two issues are likely going to be addressed in the second version of the truck.

The Cybertruck would be pretty useless for us as a farm vehicle. I don't think "truck" is a good word for it. I think it is a "lifestyle vehicle" for a particular demographic that does not include me.

I am truly laughing at all those who need a >250 range on a truck.

Most work trucks go from home to site and back.
Most non work trucks go from home to school/mall and back.

That covers 90% of all trucks. The other 10% should be hybrids.

What you describe is EXACTLY how most trucks are used. It's exceedingly rare that ANYONE tows ANYTHING, let alone at capacity load. There are indeed a few people who actually use trucks for their intended purpose, no doubt, but those people are the exception. Probably 90% of trucks never touch dirt, haul 1/10th of their load capacity or tow anything ever. Just saying...

The Tesla network is CCS in Europe and is open in most of Europe now I believe. Tesla's can charge at all of those locations in the US too, they just require an adapter. Tesla did open-source their charging format for North America.

If Rivian can get the kinks worked out of their truck and survive long enough to mature the product I'd be interested in that as well. It's a good looking truck for sure, but it still has some problems.

You must be waaaaaaay younger than me then. This is what trucks looked like during most of my adulthood. It's only since Geedubya installed regulations allowing poorer fuel mileage to be allowed the bigger the truck is that trucks inflated to their now ridiculous sizes. This one has the novel features of being low enough that you can actually reach into the bed or engine compartment without using a ladder and a bed big enough to hold more than a couple of six-packs.

^^^ I agree that those old 2WD trucks are certainly gone and for seemingly no good reason other than supreme machismo. My neighbor had one when I was a kid. Even my family's 4WD F250s were not that big, comparatively, to what is around these days. And so much better looking.

They look like trucks have always looked to me. For example.

I like both of the trucks. I'd like the older one to be restored more than it is.

Not really a pickup truck guy, but this was/is one of my favorites:

I am that Masked Man.

All you can do, is all you can do.

There’s trouble — it's time to play the sound of my people.

Your boos mean nothing to me, I've seen what you cheer for.

Insisting on your rights without acknowledging your responsibilities isn’t freedom, it’s adolescence.

I've been to the edge of the map, and there be monsters.

We are a government of laws, not men.

Everybody counts or nobody counts.

When a good man is hurt,
all who would be called good
must suffer with him.

You and I have memories longer than the road that stretches out ahead.

There is no safety for honest men except
by believing all possible evil of evil men.

We don’t do focus groups. They just ensure that you don’t offend anyone, and produce bland inoffensive products. —Sir Jonathan Ive

An armed society is a polite society.
And hope is a lousy defense.

You make me pull, I'll put you down.

I *love* SIGs. It's Glocks I hate.

Both are EVs, too. (Okay, probably not the newer one.)
