Barry Nelson

"In 1954, CBS paid Ian Fleming $1,000 ($10,090 in 2021 dollars) to adapt his novel Casino Royale into a one-hour television adventure, 'Casino Royale', as part of its Climax! series. The episode aired live on 21 October 1954 and starred Barry Nelson as "Card Sense" James Bond and Peter Lorre as Le Chiffre. The novel was adapted for American audiences to show Bond as an American agent working for 'Combined Intelligence', while the character Felix Leiter—American in the novel—became British onscreen and was renamed 'Clarence Leiter'."

Woah! You've exploded my entire Bond world!

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

The book wasn't. The second movie was. Not this one apparently.

The movie with Woody Allen was a comedy, the first Casino Royal movie.

The second, with Daniel Craig, wasn't.

Barry Nelson's Casino Royal was a TV show.

Also, not to be confused with the Casino at The Royale...

Casino Royal, 1967

I loved that movie. As a child I saw it more than any other.

They blew up David Niven's car. The good guys blew up his car to get him to come out of retirement.

It was the beginning of my tin foil hat collection.

Had a good friend, back in the day, whose passion project was writing a James Bond screenplay. He was a huge fan. Even went to the premiere of “Never Say Never Again” dressed as Bond.

He never got his Bond movie made, but he did become a screenwriter. He’s had a couple of major releases for HBO and Disney. Even heard he has a project in development with Spielberg. By way of his kids, he’s run a community theater program for youngsters and teens for a decade or two.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
