Looking for steel rules/rulers Date: January 19, 2023 04:49PM |
I'm at AMZ looking at steel rules, and am trying to find something non-flexible with a bit of heft, 6" and 12"
Not finding exactly what I want, but maybe settling on a set with 'photo etched'.
I don't know if I've run across this before.
Are these literally etched into the steel, so as not to wear off?
I've used adjustable level level rules, with the measurements stamped into the ruler.
Mainly just curious, and trying to a void the razor thin rules that are so common.

I needed something very similar recently...
I ended up ordering an aluminum drawing triangle and steel scale/ruler from Blick's Art Supplies.

I need to get back into metalworking... I could turn out 50 of those a DAY after a few days of setting up the jigs and fixtures...

LOL, but it's a precision straight edge, un-scaled to allow one to channel Chi, Zen, the Force, or whatever higher power of choice.
Given that my dial calipers were $10 at Jezzbo, I'll have to give that wonderfulness a pass.
Jezzbo has something that looks like it'll do, but I was just wondering about 'photo etching'.
Some of these were reviewed as being very thin, and I just didn't want something that would be bent if I were a little casual with setting somewhere instead of stowing it proper.

McMaster has a large selection
I've ordered from McMaster-Carr a few times, but I was hoping that AMZ had something because they're so convenient.
And they did.
I bought these from Amazon. Very rigid.
I can see very well from the pic that those will do the job!
I already order something else, and I'll see if I can cancel it.
If not I'll just let it go back to AMZ and order these instead.

I've ordered from McMaster-Carr a few times, but I was hoping that AMZ had something because they're so convenient.

I had a wonderful little 6” metal ruler that I loved.
I had it for decades.
It now lives behind the plate glass mirror where I last was using it to measure something up close to it.
