Okay, let's have at it.

Yes, let's!

(But seriously... this one isn't all that common. Probably more so in the UK than here in the States.)

My understanding is Baby Daddy denotes someone that was present at conception and either is never seen again, or impotently tries to disrupt, for all public appearances, what is a "stable" situation.

Well, it wasn't as if I literally "LMAO" with the student... but never having heard that particular expression before, I couldn't help an inadvertent laugh.

And yes, LMAO should be on the list too...

Anything that was not in the Oxford Unabridged Dictionary of the English Language in 1980.

But especially,

"Basically"
"At the end of the day"
"the bottom line is"
"What he/she said was"
"Troops" (As opposed to Soldiers- a good NPR broadcast on this earlier this week)
"Criticality"
"celebrity"
"star" (when NOT related to an astronomically large gaseous body in the throes of nuclear fusion)
"Staffer" (when used generically- I want to know what these people's titles are, really ! If the people knew that they were getting this critical data from the sub-assistant to the assistant advisor to the sub-secretary of the under-secretary of the department in charge of toilet paper measurements, they'd know it was BS)

ANY IM or Cellular telephone speak slang.
Any slang that involves obscentity and/or mumbling (Kids- I'm getting older, I can't hear so well !)

Jem, yes, I see that ALL the time with my students. The problem with cell phones, IMing, text messaging, etc. -- it all seems to have negatively impacted their learning the English language and how to write and speak properly.

Admittedly, language is a fluid, evolving thing-- but still, I cringe when I read some of what they've written.

How about LOL, especially:

1. When said out loud and not in an email or post, and
