I am curious if I were to port the number to google voice and then use OBi 200 or 202, if that would result in lower taxes (I would probably still need 911) and if it would also allow me to fax once in a while. Faxing with OOMA didn't really work 10 years ago last time I tried it.

we have ooma too. same issue and lack of use, really. But still need a 2nd line occasionally.
I think others here will say Gvoice with an Obi (they are discontinued but still available).
The issue is the port. It has to go to a mobile first, then to gvoice.
It's the only thing that has slowed me.
Also looking to see if anyone replaces the Obi with something newer.

A mildly relevant data point to share-

With Vonage I was regularly paying $25-26/mo. I switched to OOMA last year and now pay $19/mo. Not a huge savings, but definitely less than before. Only thing I miss is the clock on the old Vonage unit.

We are current Ooma users also. This post has caused me to rethink if we really need a landline anymore. We are paying around $5.40/month which is cheap, but we hardly ever call from the line and only mainly only receive calls from the kids school with reminders.

Is that just for the fees? If not, what level of service do you have for such a low rate?

"Premier, Monthly Subscription" Service level,
and the Basic Service Tier, "Ooma Basic".

If there was anything less expensive I would like to know about it as ours is used very infrequently.

we have Premium for about that number. Perhaps we are grandfartered in? Dunno.

Yes I recall seeing that free offer way back when.

Seems the only thing I would want to keep is the Voicemail forwarding feature. I like getting mp3 files emailed to me instead of having to call up and listen to messages on the phone. Worth $10 more?? Hmmmm.

yup. Had my OG Ooma (purchased Black Friday 2009 + paid $40 number porting fee) in continuous service for nearly 14 years now (same hardware!!). Never paid a dime once I got my number ported in. When the hardware dies, I will likely port the number to something else free or cheap. It's kind of nice having a "home" number that the kids can use since they don't have phones yet (not that they use it, but thinking about them needing to make an emergency call).

My OOMA bricked once, and I replaced it with another. When it happens again, it will likely be time for a reckoning. I might just forward the number to one of our cells for a few years, then drop it. I can get ID, caller block, remote voice mail and many other most useful Premium perks as standard on a cell.

I use the web interface to get Ooma voicemail. If it’s urgent they can call my cell.

Saint Cloud, Minnesota, where the weather is wonderful even when it isn't.

Our phone line with Ooma got really flaky a couple of days ago and continued after unplugging, reseting, and rebooting everything. I borrowed a phone to be sure it wasn't the phones and it's not. Ooma's having a sale right now for $50 shipped. I ordered a new one today. Having a land line make my wife happy and that's worth $6.xx a month to me.
