(Edit) The "slow" SSD issue on M2 Macs only affects the base models

Ok, so this video from macrumors.com (at about 10 minutes in) shows that this does NOT affect the larger SSDs, which are faster than the equivalent M1 SSD.

EDIT:
Correct link:

Thanks to all who pointed this out, and especially to Rich.

From several take apart videos I have seen it looks like the space for the additional SSD chips is there...

Would it be possible to find some 3rd party willing to add the SSD chips for a fee more reasonable than Apple's?

256GB => 512GB = $200 (256GB)
512GB => 1TB = $400 (512GB)

Yeah I realize this would definitely violate warranty. I'm mostly curious about the day the existing chips fail; I assume that at the very least this is something Rossman could be paid to do?

I think this is the intended link, from another thread below.

I'm still pleased with my base model 2020 M1 MBP. Nearly everything I do is instantaneous. Still running Monterey.

I liked this MacRumors video, but compared to Max Tech's videos, this is kind of simplistic and light on info. I'm usually not overly concerned with benchmarks, but before I drop a fair amount of dough on my first machine in forever, I want to see how the 1TB and 2TB perform before making up my mind.

I expect they will not have the same limitations, but the comparison of the 512GB versions was concerning.

I'm not a fan of Max's (formerly of Apple Insider) voice timbre, and the AM radio disc jocky volume level.

(Rene Richie suffers form the same affectation.)

Andrew at Apple Insider as a god-awful cadence that bugs me to know end.

Back to our program already in progress.
