Dumb iPhone question

Got my wife a used-but-pretty-pristine iPhone 11 (online, 3rd party seller), reset to factory settings, and transferred all data from her old 8. Easy peasy.

But the TM calls still go to the 8 (not surprisingly). I was a little surprised to find the 11 still has a SIM card, but I was more surprised that it's a different size (??) than the 8.

Anyway, do I need to take both phones to T-Mobile? Or the Apple store?

hmm, all iPhones that I had since iPhone 5 had a nanoSIM.

I am confused on how an iPhone 11 and iPhone 8 can have different SIMs. they did not go back to micro or full size SIM, did they?

I think you need to go to an T-mobile store to get the right SIM, if that is indeed the issue.

which one do you have?

The SIM holder on the 11 is slightly smaller than on the 8, and it doesn't appear to have the corner cut off like on the 8.

So, maybe it's a Micro vs Nano?

You may have it upside-down.

The last iPhone with a micro-SIM was the iPhone 4S, it's been nano-SIM ever since the iPhone 5.

They all have nano.

As mentioned above, maybe it is upside down. Or maybe Apple had some international version with different SIM size abroad? I can’t think of anything else at this time.

The 11 uses a nano SIM.

With the 'Phone held upright, the hole to remove the tray should be at the bottom of the slot.

Oh, fer gawd's sake. These damn old eyes.

Took another closer look, and yep, I was trying to put the SIM card in the holder upside down. In my defense, the SIM card sits in the holder the opposite side up in the 8. You have to flip it so the contacts are facing up for the 11.

Thanks for your help. I would have been been irritated if I'd have to have had this done this for me at T-Mobile.

Burrow in Settings/General to see what the phone number is on the 11.

I think you should remove the SIM card in both iPhones and get the proper SIM card for the 11 from T-Mobile. It should not cost a penny.

You might have to go to the store or call 611 to get the new iPhone active.

No - just moving the SIM over (once I got it in the right way) seems to have done the trick.
