If only they would have listened to my advice.

I told them to connect iPhones with CarPlay.
The iPhone would have fixed it with autocorrect.

Again, this isn't a recall in the conventional sense. It's a software update, and Tesla does this thing all the time. It's like calling every Apple software or security update, a recall.

Tesla is every bit a software company as it is a hardware company. They are continually updating and improving their software, just like Apple. The only reason this made the news, and hence posted here, is because it's Tesla. Otherwise there's nothing to see here.

‘ On Thursday Tesla had to issue a recall for nearly 363,000 of its electric vehicles. At issue is the company's highly controversial "Full Self Driving" Beta, which the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration believes is dangerous.

NHTSA has four principal complaints with the driver-assistance system:

The FSD Beta system may allow the vehicle to act unsafe around intersections, such as traveling straight through an intersection while in a turn-only lane, entering a stop sign-controlled intersection without coming to a complete stop, or proceeding into an intersection during a steady yellow traffic signal without due caution.
Additionally, NHTSA says that "the system may respond insufficiently to changes in posted speed limits or not adequately account for the driver's adjustment of the vehicle's speed to exceed posted speed limits."

According to the timeline published by the nation's auto safety regulator, NHTSA told Tesla on January 25 that it had four concerns about FSD Beta's driving behavior and asked Tesla to issue a recall. After a couple of weeks of discussions, Tesla apparently did not concur with the agency but decided to issue a recall anyway, perhaps reading the writing on the wall.

The recall affects 2016-2023 Models S, 2016-2023 Models X, 2017-2023 Models 3, and 2020-2023 Models Y "that have installed or are pending installation of a software release that contains the Autosteer on City Streets feature." ‘

That makes for a truly misleading headline line.

WASHINGTON, Feb 16 (Reuters) - Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) said it would recall 362,000 U.S. vehicles to update its Full Self-Driving (FSD) Beta software after U.S. regulators said on Thursday the driver assistance system did not adequately adhere to traffic safety laws and could cause crashes.

If those are Tesla's words, ok, then blame Elon, which I don't mind doing out of hand.

I guess

Tesla recalls 362,000 U.S. vehicle software downloads over Full Self-Driving software

or

Tesla issues 362,000 U.S. vehicles software updates over Full Self-Driving software

is just not click-worthy.

Several of those have already been fixed in previous updates...last year. NHTSA is too slow for this...

So some Tesla fans are seeing this 'recall' as sort of an endorsement of FSD Beta:

"NHTSA has reviewed FSD Beta, and instead of banning it they asked for new updates to go out." [twitter.com]

Some people are also saying there's probably some kind of understanding between the government and Tesla now, to not go after FSD, in exchange for Tesla opening up their Super Charger network.

The "some people are saying" trope has outlived its usefulness and any veracity it might ever have had.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

NHTSA wants Tesla FSD to follow the letter of the law. Tesla are teaching it to fit in with human drivers as seamlessly as possible. It will go through yellow lights, but the law says that you're supposed to stop for a yellow light unless it's unsafe to do so. I'd wager that EVERY driver has found themselves accidentally in a turning lane and saying..."I guess I'm turning right/left now".

In what state the that law exist?

It's not CA law.

It is recommended in the Driver's Handbook, but that's right up there with 'stop 3 seconds at a red light'.

Dad's Law, not law.

Yeah, I've been behind the people that slam on their brakes at a yellow light.

They are idiots.
