I still remember waking up outside my apartment at about 4 AM. Then I realized I had felt the earthquake (4 on the Richter) and had just run outside before waking up.

2. This is the opposite of advice given by earthquake safety authorities because people often get killed or injured trying to rush outside. In almost all cases you should shelter in place until all shaking stops and then carefully evacuate to an open area.

Be my guest and stay in the building. It'll keep the staircase nice and clear for me to RUN LIKE THE DEVIL out of the building!!
