Speaking of CVS...

Will CVS fill prescriptions using non-childproof bottles and caps?

I'm going to try to make an opener for the push and 1/8 turn caps for someone, but it would be nice if the supplied caps were usable by old people.

They would in the past, just check with the CVS store that would be supplying the prescription. At one time that was the flipper cap, one side childproof and the other not. But I haven't had a prescription filled in a while that was in a pill jar to see what the options are currently.

I did that for my wife's prescriptions 2 or 3 years ago at CVS and they have bottled her's that way ever since. I decided to get mine that way also. It's nice not having to wrestle with those child proof tops anymore. Of course we no longer have children in the house,

I did, but the pharmacy was closed, so...

Exactly.

The person is 88 with a damaged rotator cuff and is a poor candidate for surgery.

The turn on the cap is very slight, but it's still tough for them to push hard enough to open it.

I'll call again.

Walgreens does for sure. The lid just flips over and screws on.

The CVS around here do, as I've got my mom's set up that way and they remove the child-proof stuff from mine as well.

The CVS here did for my mom. All the bottles from publix are the fliplids

They use the flip lids. My wife has trouble with them. So I just break off the plastic pawl on the bottle.

Yes. Just ask them to put your request for the snap caps on your profile. Or in this case, ask for a snap on cap when you pick you the meds.

I just might do both tomorrow (or today, actually).

Looking at the cap and bottle, if I recall correctly, there isn't one pawl to snap off.

It looked land a series of lands and grooves, that would take some time.

If they're flip lids, that might me almost as rough though, and that would mean trying to fashion something to help her push the cap down.

Thank you for all the suggestions.

If they can tear open an easy tear package, look into SimpleDose. I love it.

The bottles that CVS uses don't seem to have that tab, and aren't reversible into a screw cap like Walgreens. The CVS caps require pressing down on the cap while turning.

This.

With my one quick look at the time, each one of those notches in the cap corresponds to a point on the bottle, so modification of either would be tedious, and near pointless.

She has a damaged rotator cuff, and I've observed that trying to rip open bags is a problem.

Turning the cap isn't directly her problem, it's pressing down on it.

A helpful MRFer contacted me and said that CVS will provide 'easy-open' caps, as did Diana's and bfd's posts.

I just rang off from CVS and they changed her prescription to the easy-open caps and said I could come by and pick up a few caps themselves, as suggested by bfd, so thank you for that.

She's going to be quite pleased.

Thank you, everyone!
