Do your energy bills go up or down during the summer?

EDIT: Growing up in very hot and pretty humid South Texas, actual highs between 95-102, feels like temps between 100-110, I am insanely Jealous of the concept of "not needing air conditioning"

Living in the humid south, between electric/gas central air/heat, and prior to the rise in gas prices, they were about the same as in winter.

Compared to winter? Down - way down (for myself, Winter = furnace running; Summer (and most of Spring & Fall) = no heating/cooling costs)

AC (heat pump) in the summer, heat (heat pump, sometimes with electric coils) in the winter. February-May and October-December is the best because neither is needed and bills go down.

out in the warm west, summer is usually 2x+ winter.

Electricity to stay cool vs gas to stay warm.

Goes down, since I have electric heat in winter and air conditioning in summer is unnecessary here.

Nobody remembers their first download, but everyone remembers their 1st LP.

Electricity peak in winter and summer, almost equal, though the summer high period lasts about a month, whereas the winter peak goes on for about three months. Gas peaks only in winter.

No AC, so mostly just paying electric for lights and appliances for the Summer. Winter heating bills using gas here in W. MA are high.

Summer is usually about 1.5x winter costs. In the summer it's probably slightly cheaper to run the hot tub but the pool pump and the AC unit drive up costs.

Way down… we almost never use our window AC units, and there are no Christmas lights, less water heater use, and fewer lights. I have heat mats and lights for seedlings in the spring, so I expect bigger bills at this time of year. That said, our bills are very low, even before the solar.

Pacific NW - we rarely have temps above 75 - and no AC - we heat with propane, so our total energy bills are WAY lower in summer.

No central air in my Michigan home - I am gone pretty much all day at work in the summer while the sun is up

Summer total bill Gas and Electric - usually around $75 to 100 - no central air - just fans and nice cross breeze in bedroom.

Hmmm, October bill was the lowest - $76.66 (no fans going I guess and indian summer so not too cold)

July bill - $88.18 - gas and electric

February 2023 was highest so far - $337.04 - bedroom space heater and multiple heated beds for the cat because i keep house at around 60 - ish when I am not home

I am insanely Jealous of the concept of "not needing air conditioning"

We only use AC sparingly in our house here in SE lower Michigan in Summer. If we have to use AC then our Summer energy bills are higher than Winter.

It seems that in the warmer weather here everyone-homes and businesses-overdo the AC settings to the cold side. You can go to a restaurant, e.g., when it's 80º outside, and you want to get your Winter coat!

So when we use our AC at home, it's only when it is truly oppressive, like when it gets to 90º+ and the humidity is 60% +. Fans do I just fine otherwise.

And we look for restaurants that have tables outside...

To sum; yes, drastically, but I have levelized billing, so my payment is close to the same cost month-to-month.

(though I don't live in the deep sweat pit of SE Louisiana anymore, I still live in the south (Central AR) and it still gets damn hot)
