Advice please: web page capture

Was sad to learn today that the photography site DP Review will be shutting down soon. It's been my go-to morning read for years. A while back, they featured a story about my father's lost-then-found negatives, and I have that story (on their website) linked to my own website promoting the photo collection. Via Chrome, I downloaded the story in the three formats available on the dropdown menu: Webpage Single File, Webpage HTML, and Webpage Complete. How can I format any of these downloads in a manner that would let me host the content on my Dropbox, so I can then link to that hosted document? Thanks!

Safari is actually way better at saving web pages with its "Export to PDF" function. Granted, you end up with a really tall, one page PDF, but it's essentially like a web page that way. Just zoom in to a comfortable view and scroll down like you would with a web page.

What you wouldn't get with the PDF version is links to make the images bigger, or links if there were things like slideshows. But this looks more like a "newspaper article" so it seems like a PDF would be fine here.

If you want to preserve the comments though, looks like you'd have to show them first and save it twice (once for each "page" of comments).

And doesn't Amazon own DP Review?!?!?! You'd think they could at least keep the site up in "locked" mode (no forums, no user comments) indefinitely. It's such a vast resource of past content.

Not sure if that's in the works, but I figure I should prepare for the worst.

Definitely prepare for future loss of the site. They claim it will remain up in locked more for an undisclosed limited amount of time.

If I remember correctly, the guy that started DP preview was the guy that ran the Power Computing forum. That's where I researched my PCC purchase and also heard about a great website that pointed to great macs deals on the internet: dealmac.

If all else fails going forward after the site shuts down, the WayBack machine has it captured (from 11 different time periods).

It has been a while since I built a website but I do not think you will be able to easily save a page for hosting on your own because of all the things they do with scripting. I am pretty sure you will at the very least need to reformat everything for your own hosting. Maybe in a year or six, you could get an AI to do all that.

Doing something like Print to PDF, then resave as HTML might work, but it depends a little on your host.

Back when Dealmac forums shut down, there was a site-scraper that I downloaded. I tried to save a copy but my DSL was too slow to save more than 10% before it dropped off line.

Archive.org has saved an amazing number of pages/sites but only has about half of what they could. I think it's partly money (storage), partly copyright, partly not being aggressive enough.
