26.2...here I come!
Posted by: Tofer

Well, as most of you probably know by now (thanks, lafinfil for all the reminders!!), tomorrow morning is the Boston Marathon. I truly appreciate all of the donations, and while I haven't updated my website, I did make my goal, and I have a lot of you to thank for it.

The current weather forecast is for "the worst weather ever" for the marathon: sub 40ºF, 15-20mph headwinds, and rain. It seems mother nature wanted to play a joke on me this year, I'm afraid. Anyway, I'll try to be swift, and we'll see how it goes! Cheers!!

My wife just ran the Columbus half marathon on Saturday. It was really cold there as well - but no rain. She ran the Cleveland Marathon a few years ago and had the wind and the rain and about 45 degrees. She said the only way she'll ever run another marathon is if they can guarantee good weather!!

Best of luck tomorrow!

Better take a snow shovel just in case.

On the plus side, those Kenyans might not be able to handle the colder temps. Maybe you'll win!

Good Luck!

Break a leg!

Errr...on second thought.

Do be careful, though, I'm in Philly, and the weather here is *horrible*! It's been raining for over 24 hours, and for the last few, it's been a sleety snow mix. Yuck!

On the bright side, I just finished my taxes. On the dark side...I owe! :-(

Best of luck, though! May you be fleet of foot and warm of skin.

Thanks, everyone! I got a fairly good night sleep last night. The big issue now is the logistics of getting to the start line and staying dry during the 3 hours of waiting around outside. We have to board the busses at 7am to get up to the start, and then they drop us off outside in the rain. The race starts (for me) at 10:30am. Cheers!

Good Luck Tofer and thanks for wearing the sign !

Man Windoze sucks. All my images are DARKER than on a Mac.

Tofer ends up looking like Tony Curtis with earrings. Or, Mr. Clean WITH HAIR. Not sure WHY his ears look like they have earrings, however. But, it's funny looking.

[Ed: funny, I could not remember Tony Curtis' name off the top of my head, but I did remember that when I was young I saw him in HOUDINI (movie), used IMDB and correctly chose the 1953 movie which in turn pointed me to his name]

Oddly enough, both Tony Curtis and Yul Brenner were in a movie together, Taras Bulba.

Either way, images in (MY) windows suck.

Good luck with that running.

Good luck . . . especially with that sign . . . you can at least hold it over your head while you are waiting for the race to begin!

tofer-

u might want to stay hydrated.

then again, running 26.2 miles in a rainstorm is not my idea of taking liquid into my body.

as they say in the car biz-your mileage may vary.

good luck to u.

we are rooting

be well

42 degrees is the ideal weather for running. You gotta run to keep warm and it minimizes dehydration. Rain is good too for cooling. I don't think the wind is good unless it is at your back. You are going to fly today!

Nah. Rain is going up so fast Creedence Clearwater is singing "Who'll stop the Rain?"

answer: Nobody.

By now Tofer is just kicking into high gear or depending on the start time streaking across the last couple miles. Go guy!

Woo-hoo! The weather was okay at the beginning, then terrible in the middle, perfect when the Wellesley coeds were screaming at us and trying to kiss us, and then I hit a wall at mile 23. I was on track for a 3:30 marathon until mile 23, but then I slowed down significantly and ended up with a 3:36 time. I'm pretty happy about it.

Thanks again to everyone who donated, and for all the support in general. Cheers!
