What format do I use for tranparent background in WORD?

Have a jpg image that a person wants to drop into a word document (PC). Currently has a "white" rgb background.
How can I get the background to go away. I've tried .gif, clipping path in .eps, pdf...etc. I even read the help pages. HOW??? Thanks.

Do you have either PS or PS Elements? If I were working on this project, I'd open it in an image editing program, convert it to a format that supports transparency, and then select the image (or background, whichever is easier) and delete it. JPEG won't support transparency, and it's my experience that the white background won't just disappear when the image is converted; it has to be removed. If somebody knows an easier way to do it, I'll welcome the information, too.

You need to clip or knock the background out in a photo editing app like Photoshop. 72dpi resolution is good for screen viewing. If you are going to print, 150dpi will be good.

Word will support transparency in GIF images and I think PNG. I'm not sure but I think Word won't support transparency in TIFF images.

Yup, PNG seems to be the favorite for using in Word. I was just off researching that.

Of course, using Word as a graphics program is like using Word as a car.

taking out the background and using a graphic in Word are 2 separate problems. Use something like photoshop to remove the background than save as a PNG to "insert" into Word.

Thanks to all. PNG worked perfectly.
