they're probably afraid of the homeowner coming to the door with a gun and shooting them...

Our local UPS folks ring the Ring and wave. They also get cookies.

It's really on me to get a ring or similar doorbell camera/alert system, but my wife and I were just talking about this. The courier firms track every truck, and know what packages are on that truck for delivery; that's part of their logistics selling point.

Why not have a service whereby you can ask for a text message to be thrown at your when your delivery is within say 10 houses. I've had this before but it seems to have dried up.

UPS has their live map but it apparently only works on boxes of towels or construction paper; once the value is over 50 bucks you get the TRACKING NOT AVAILABLE display; "item will arrive between 7 AM and 10 PM and there had better be someone there to sign for it" and oops, we forgot to knock so now it's going back to the depot. We might try again tomorrow. We know when you have to go to the toilet and that's when we're going to attempt delivery, again without actually knocking.

The "drop and run" is standard practice here...
Or, slap the "we missed you" notice on the door, and run for signature required packages.... with no attempt to actually knock or ring, or anything. I was SITTING IN THE FRONT ROOM when they tried the slap a note and run routine... I opened the door and beat them to my gate. Then he went BACK TO THE TRUCK to get the box he never actually tried to deliver to get it.

There’s no reason to if you have a video doorbell. I bet that’s half the reason they don’t

We got a UPS package this week, and I was surprised to get a doorbell ring. Got the dog excited.

UPS does OK here. Fedex will sometimes leave packages in the wrong building or, if they are heavy, and they get them into the right building, they leave them in the small area between the two exterior doors. Once in a while, small, light packages get left right in front of my apartment door, but if I lived on a higher floor, I doubt they would ever be left at my door.

My life goes smoothly and in regular intervals

it seems different to every driver.
we had a regular guy what would knock loudly or ring the bell and wait a minute or so.
of late, nothing, sticker and off they go.
grrrrr
