MRF MiniMeetup Success
Posted by: Markintosh

A MiniMeetup of MRF members was held today at the Alpine Meadows ski area in Lake Tahoe. It was not publicly announced. Davester and myself and a couple of odd tagalongs (not on MRF) met at the top of the Summit lift and took a half dozen laps down the mountain, sharing backstories on the lift rides.

Davester was the first MRF member I have ever met in person, after 18 years of membership and several years at the other place. Unfortunately, I was popular today, actually meeting up with four different groups of skiers, mostly ones that I have met through the Teton Gravity Research forums.

As it turns out, neither of us were serial killers, nor did either of us seem crazy. My mother will be relieved by this fact.

Nice meeting you and your ski buddy Davester!

Keeping details private and off the forum is definitely the way to go.
Glad it was a success!

A successful MRF Meet-Up needs some homage to the successes from our past,
and some of our current visual cortices will appreciate the retro-stimulation......

I love the “Teton Gravity Research” community name. Reminds me of our Boy Scout week in Canada and “Comedy night”. When in the middle of a complex skit, one of our older boys jumped up, yelled “gravity check !” And threw himself onto the ground. Leaped up and said “It’s STILL ON “. And ran off into the darkness..

Huh.

I thought Teton Gravity Research was a lingerie company.

I'm a little disappointed.

Maybe more than a little disappointed.

Maybe a lot more disappointed than I should be.

Yes, the MiniMeetup was great. Markintosh also skied slowly enough that I could more or less keep up with him and did not lead me off any vertical rocky precipices. It was a lovely bluebird day with good snow while we skied together but which turned into mashed potatoes and glue not long after we went separate ways. A photo from our meetup spot...

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

I know several of the main TGR folks, and have done work for some of them.
