Nikon's vertical grip exclusively for Z8, WTF?

Is it too much to ask that the vertical grip made exclusively for the Z8 align on the non grip side?

I know this doesn't affect functions of the cameras but this bothers me immensely. #firstworldproblems imighthaveocd

This has me wondering if anyone has attempted to build a camera where the image sensor can be rotated instead of the camera?

Wow, and unlike the Canon grip that's too long, this one is too short so it would be totally fixable!

Might not be cost effective, but I've wondered if square sensors would be the answer.

Kind of wish they'd done that in phones, so you could record horizontally, while holding the phone vertically. And making vertical videos a conscious choice requiring an additional button press!

They are doing this on purpose to drive me crazy, right?

To paraphrase Paul Hogan --

You call that short?
Now this is short

Literally it's me and one other guy in the media center with Nikon gear. He's a Nikon ambassador so he gets stuff on loan thru Nikon Italy.

There are more Sony users now than Nikon.

99% are Canon.

Nikon has repeatedly shot themselves in the foot so many times they need a wheelchair now.

The Nikon still looks cooler.

Taking lessons from Canon, I guess.

The BG-R10 grip for Canon's R5, R6 and R6II is not only not quite the right size, but the button placement isn't quite right. Hopefully, Nikon at least put the buttons in the right alignment.

This is very disturbing, but not as much as your first pic! That Sony A7 III looks pretty great—no matter what the menus look like.

I've decided that a grip too long bothers me less than one that is too short. I have dismantled a stuck vertical grip once. The screw mechanism broke off. The grip is not filled with too many electronics. What takes up the most space is the battery compartment. I am not sure why Canon and Nikon can't make flush grips.
