Running latest and greatest Mojave on my 2012 MacBook Pro. Have Apple Airports (worked for years for me so no need to change--yet). Internet source is Comcast.

Problem: Had a power outage yesterday and for some reason the network we use is not working on my MacBook. When It does show up it asks me for a password. The password has not changed but it is telling me it is not the correct password. Checked the settings on the Extreme and the extenders (Apple products). Nothing seems amiss.

Appears to be only happening on my laptop. Wife's laptop works iPads, phones etc appear to be working with the specific network. All the Google devices work and lights and nest thermo are working on the network. My iPad even shared the password--nada. I can go to another network but this one just ain't working for me.

So what could be the problem? Any ideas or solutions would be helpful and appreciated.

I could reset the password but as mentioned above I would have to change all the other devices mentioned above in the house which I would rather not have to do unless really necessary.

Sometimes this points to a problem with the saved password in the Keychain.

Open Keychain Access and search for "Airport" passwords in yout login and localitems/iCloud keychains. Delete the one(s) corresponding to your home network.

Then turn WiFi off/on again and sign in again when prompted.

Maybe clean out saved wireless networks in System Prefs:

[support.apple.com]

When it is working, drag your witeless network to the top of the list.

Well the keychain had no passwords for that particular network. The wireless network was at the top of the list now it is not even there any more. Strange, very strange. Then it shows later in the list of wireless networks but yet still asking for a password.

Delete it and try to sign in again.

I would also restart the machine, if you haven’t tried that already.

Missing from the top of the list implies that it has been removed from the list of saved WiFi networks in the System Preferences.

No saved PW in the login or local items Keychains may be due to your having shared the password from another device such as the iPad previously. When you do it that way, it doesn't save the password the same way.

Try this:

Locate the /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration folder and throw the com.apple.airport.preferences file in the Trash.

Then reboot, and hold down the Shift key while it starts up. This is a safe-boot.

When you get to the login screen, it should say "safe boot" in the upper-right corner of the screen. DO NOT LOG IN when safe-booted. Instead, reboot and this time don't hold down the Shift key.

Finally, after logging in again, try reconnecting to your WiFi network.

Thanks to all for the advice. Oddly enough started up the laptop this morning and viola I was able to log into the wireless network I was having problems with. It took the password. I ran my Cocktail app last night so maybe that have something to do with it. Go figure. Will see how it goes.
