Any deals on Photoshop Elements?

Teenage son uses Photoshop at school but there's no way I'm doing the subscription thing for the full-up version. I figured he might use Elements on his PC at home. Anyone know of any deals on it right now?

Big learning curve to go from Adobe to Affinity, and frustrating limitations for layer-controls and item-selection and other stuff.

I'm finding that Pixelmator Pro is my go-to for image-editing these days, Affinity for DTP in lieu of InDesign.

Back to the OP: Amazon has the best deals when there are deals. Going rate is $99, but it goes down to $89 sometimes.

Students can save $20 bucks with registration using a .edu email address:

Only $70 at PC World....

Save $30, no student/teacher necessary, in case others wanna give it a shot, too.
FYI, Doc's edu deal is a 2fer; ya get both Photoshop AND Premier Elements for $80.

Quick shout out for the old faithful Graphic Converter, which has a pretty robust feature set.

Hmmm, tempting, thanks. I might bite on this. I use Affinity Photo and recently upgraded to version 2. I've never cared for the interface and v2 is worse than v1 for me.

rz,

As a student, he may be eligible for the student discounted subscription for the Adobe apps. Considering it's likely for a short period of time, I'd be inclined to see how much it will cost for a student subscription and cancel it once he returns to school. I'd also see if he can get a discount through his school, too.

FWIW, I'm trying to switch from Adobe Illustrator and Indesign to the Affinity apps and it has proven more difficult than anticipated. The differences in the interface and the tools are significant. Definitely very tempted to sign up for the real Adobe apps if I can find a way to get the two I need at a discounted price.

I'm working on a marching band shirt design and playing around with affinity photo and the designer. I'm kind of missing my Adobe apps and might splurge and pay for a subscription for a month then cancel. Just seems slightly annoying. My kids are in school with a school e-mail but that seems like a giant PITA.

Yeah, Affinity Photo is a PITA sometimes.

This is why I use Pixelmator Pro.

Affinity Publisher is a better app, but still has some weird layer/selection behavior.

I don’t think he has an edu account at his school. But I’ll ask him.

I find Photoshop Elements just too limited to use, and I had hoped that I could get it to work for my fairly simple needs. You can buy Elements+, which I did, but that doesn't help enough. Elements is pretty pathetic. I'm looking into Pixelmator Pro and Acorn 7. And keeping my pre-subscription installed versions going as long as possible. I also have On1 but have not had the time or desire to really get to know it.

You don't have to have a .edu address; there are other ways to demonstrate eligibility (see below). There's also a free trial, but it's only 7 days, IIRC. $19.99/month for the first year, for access to all the apps.

The most basic photography-only (PhotoShop & LIghtroom) plan is $9.99/month.

B&H Photo offers a year of PS & LRfor $119.88, if you really don't want any of the other apps and prefer not to buy directly from Adobe:

From Adobe:

Student teacher eligibility

To qualify for a student discount, you must be at least 13 years of age and enrolled in one of the following:

University or college — accredited public or private university or college (including community, junior, or vocational college) that grants degrees requiring not less than the equivalent of two years of full-time study*
Primary or secondary school — accredited public or private primary or secondary school providing full-time instruction*
Homeschool — defined by state homeschooling regulations

What is proof of eligibility?

Use a school-issued email address: If you provide a school-issued email address during purchase you are instantly verified. (A school email address may include .edu, .k12, or other email domains sponsored by educational institutions.) If you do not have a school-issued email address or your email address cannot be verified, additional proof of eligibility may be requested after purchase.

Students and educators at accredited schools

Proof of eligibility must be a document issued by the institution with your name, institution name, and current date. Types of proof of enrollment include:

School ID card
Report card
Transcript
Tuition bill or statement

I have Pixelmator Pro as well (it was only $25 at the time), but never use it. When I was first moving away from Photoshop, I tried both Pixelmator and Affinity and felt Affinity was closer to what I was used to.

You might take a look at ON1 Photo RAW 2023, now on sale for $79.99.
